383 240z
with the torque of a 383 and the leightweight of a z the rpm drop won't put you into a hole that a motor can't climb out of. The best way to avoid this would be a 2004r but I have a 700 behind my 383 and it works just fine!!! keith
biohzrd
that has always been the problem with the 700r4. the 1st to 2nd shift was always so big. in a hevier american car say 3300lbs and up it is an issue when you get into anything over the 350 hp/tq mark. in a car as light as a zcar you shouldn't see a big problem. a friend has one in a cobra kit car weighing in at 2650lbs with driver and hasn't had a single problem. and thats with close to 500hp. the 700r4 should hold up fine with the standard performance upgrade. denny411
Thanks guys.I kinda thought that might be the case, but wanted some first hand input. Can the 200r4 handle 500+ hp? or are certain years better than others.-------------------DENNY
383 240z
Just ask ScottieGNZ how well a 200r4 works that was the stock tranny in th buick grand nats. It is a very good trans with a host of aftermarket parts for it they can be bullit proof if built right. Keith
