hey everyone how's it going.

yesterday i bought some corvette wheels for my v8 z project. i bought them off ebay and since the guy i bought them from was not far away i went to pick them up insted to shipping. i figured it would save me some cash. when i got there the guy has ton's and ton's of corvette parts. he claims he's gutted around 200 vettes in the last 2 years.

well any way, i'm also looking for a t56 trans (i thought some vettes had them) he says they didn't but some did have a 6 speed but not as good as a t56??? and he said he's got a cupple of them and 1, 7speed trans, he claims the 7 speed's are junk as well???i know nothing of these 2 trans this guy seemed to know his vettes. so is he right?? he thinks a b/w t56 is over all a better trans then the ones he had.

the 7speedis the the doug nash 4+3 trans, which is a version of the t10 with an electric overdrive on the back of it, which likes to go out on you sometimes, its advantage is overdrive on command from 2nd to fourth, with a buttn on the shifter, im a fan of that system if i could get one cheap enough. the t56 six speed is very nice, and can take a lot of power.

Hey guys,

Just to move a bit off topic icon_smile.gif He is right about the overdrives sometimes going out. We have an 84 'vette with the 4+3 that needs some work, that may be given to me if I do the work icon_smile.gif The overdrive unit on it has gone out, and makes noise when, and I can't remember which, it's either disengaged, or when it is engaged. I don't remember, but I know it only makes noise in one setting. Other wise I believe this is a good transmission. now, my question is, does anyone have any info on rebuilding these? grumpyvette perhaps? icon_smile.gif I was wondering for instance, if this is something that I could do, or if it can't be done with the home mechanics tools, and maybe a few specialised tools. also, how much does it usually cost to have it rebuilt, and for a rebuild kit? and lastly, the one I'm most curious about, is if anyone knows if you can pull the OD unit with out puliing the tranny?? this would make life much easier if I could!

Thanks guys, hope fully I'm not too off topic!

Kris

The T56 is considered to be better by most (94-96 prefered the most, better OD ratio and handles more torque and has the right bellhousing pattern). The 4+3 deal is a rather large heavy tranny (more so than the T56, or at least it appears so could be deceiving I suppose. Theres a picture of one (4+3) in the JTR manual.). It didn't last that many years I didn't think?

Regards,

Lone
