Guest thunderkitty
I have a 85’ manual turbo. Back in February my dad and I did an engine swap to a 86’ turbo engine with about 150k miles on it. We did not change the transmission or the clutch. Several months later, the transmission began to a loud grinding noise occasionally when the clutch was depressed (in neutral or in gear). This noise stops completely and immediately when the clutch was released. The noise will stop whether I just take the clutch out into neutral, or whether I start moving forware. It does not occur every time the clutch was depressed, and the pattern seemed completely random. This noise is becoming increasingly sporadic, somedays it happens multiple times in one drive, or it can go weeks without making the noise. Any suggestions? SATAN
Its not going to fix its self. You need to pull the tranny and inspect the clutch. If there is nothing wrong with the clutch, then the culprit is most likely the tranny. Couldn't be much of anything else. BTW, If you know you have an old clutch when you pull your tranny, save yourself the headache later and just replace the clutch and all related parts while you have the tranny out.
