greygears
In my wanderings around the various Nissan forums, In the chatter about the VQ motor, I keep seeing the term "rev up motor". And this "rev up motor" always seems to command a higher price. What the hell are they talking about?

greygears
Thanks for the thread Challenger. That cleared up things nicely.
EMWHYR0HEN
The main difference is that the 06 VQ35DER (Rev-up) has variable cam timing on the intake and exhasut cams whereas the 03-05 models only have it on the intake cam. I'm sure there are a few other electronic tweaks but same difference it's a VQ35DE. Notice the two bulges where the intake and exhaust cam sprokets are. And notice here the extruded cover only on the intake cam side.
Challenger
Is the first vq yours? So the only vvt intake motors only have one buldge on the insides? Now you got me thinking about vvt L heads......
greygears
How is the VVT actuated On the VQ35HR? Is it similar to the VG30DE, using a relay to actuate a couple of solenoids controlling oil flow? Or something more exotic?
Careless
Just curious, but I saw a screw-drive type device, perhaps a linear motor that was in a couple of pictures of the VQ37. could it be the same?
Pete84
The VQ37 has the Variable Valve Event and Lift tech, which controls lift and duration continuously. Very cool tech. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Variable_Valve_Event_and_Lift
EMWHYR0HEN
The Rev-up engines also have stronger connecting rod bolts and improved oil pumps.
