Half shafts

Hello, all

When I removed the the shafts all I had to do was give it a big yank and they came out,

but when putting them back in I noticed that one of them was real easy and the other

side was tight.

To me it seems that the clip inside is not holding the shaft anymore.

Will this hurt anything, if the clip is not in gauging, that holds the shaft?

Any advise would be great

Thanks

Adam

Make sure the left and right sides are in their correct sides. If not, I believe the clip on one will not engage, and the other shaft will protrude too far out of the case. Visually compare the two when they are fully inserted. They should look symetrical.

Yes, I marked them before taking them out.

I checked them three times to make sure I had the correct one in place.

What would happen if they were not correct?

I have know idea if these shafts have been removed before or not.

So they may have been in the wrong the first time.

Long one on Pass side? That is what I have.

Will check again tonight.

Thanks

Adam

Hi Adam,

The left halfshaft is shorter, the right is longer. This is also true for the part that fits into the diff - the length of the left one is shorter from the dust shield to the end of the splined area.

In your picture,

The left one is the left shaft, the right is the right (passenger side in the US) shaft.
