fl327
hey i picked up two x members, r180 and r200 the r200 is fairly stronger and heavier. man you should see whats left of my r180 x member, theres no piece bigger than six inches!!! i destroyed that thing and i saw one thing that sticks in my mind more than anything else, the way that the xmember is made of two thin pieces of steel sandwich welded together strikes me as being kinda faulty looking, has anyone reinforced this weld, i am going to, and should have photos soon. i also want to add some steel plate to the xmember to tough it up even more, but thats what i saw that broke the most on my cross member, that sandwich weld came apart from each other, and cracked in four places, oh its a mess. i would have been done putting the diff back in, but i want to tough it and make it last, so i can yet again drive my mean car, tired of driving the happy car. pparaska
Len, I bet you could chamfer the edges and seam weld the joint together all the way around and it'd be alot stronger. The 280Z R200 member is much stronger than the 240 one.
Dan Juday
Hey Len, your adventures with crossmembers has taken on a sub-culture of it's own. I want to say someday, "Ya, I shreaded my crossmember just like Len, 4 ugly pieces". What a bragg that would be! Dude, bring the wreckage to Rio for pics and grins. We all gotta see it. deMideon
Sounds like you need to mount your diff the way Pete has. I just had the new mount made for mine cost me $80, but it sure looks pretty!
