Anyone ever run or heard of anyone who has run KMJ rods?

Recommended Posts

I got a good deal on a set of Sealed Power forged pistons but in the process forgot that I'm putting these on some stock (press fit) rods and of course the pistons are floating pin. So I'm just looking for some decent rods for the thing and saw these:

They look pretty but I looked on google and didn't find anyone that ran them. I'm not looking for anything spectacular but for some reason I doubt these will handle 600hp when eagle only claims 500 on their SIR I-beam rods....

Anyway, if anyone has any experience with them I would appreciate the input. Thanks

Well your not comparing equal design rods. The Eagle SIR are more of a stock replacement rod that have a through bolt design where the KMJ rods use a capscrew.

I'd try the KMJ rods, I think they will be fine. They look to be another chinese product. I have never understood the HP rating thing, should be an rpm rating like the better rods use like 1200HP and 10000 rpm IMO.

connecting rods and rod bolts are under a high stress, levels, if your going to buy cheaper non-brand name rods your taking a greater chance on having a part not meet minimal specs and strenght levels than the better brand rods and ARP rod bolts, but that doesn,t mean the rods are necessarly bad or not a good deal.

Ive used several OFF brand rods, in builds but I INSIST the guys supplying the parts for those builds use 4340 steel rods with 7/16" ARP rod bolts

SCAT , EAGLE and CAT parts have all proven to function

Look on ebay for scat rods. You can find them for around the price of the rods you're looking at. Just a suggestion. I try to stay away from parts like that because not enough people use them for good feedback and the only thing you have to go by is the company's word. Besides it's only 20 bucks more with shipping probably for a reputable rod.

Doc, are you suggesting that the bolts might be the limiting factor of the eagle SIR rods?

Grumpy, they have off brand rods with arp bolts? I think the arp bolts are a definite plus for sure but I would think that buying arp bolts for these rods would become counterproductive (cost of bolts + rods would be greater than simply buying some name brand rods that already had arp bolts). Plus if the arp bolts require you to torque them differently than the original rods then you would probably need to have the rod honed and that would just be rediculous.. haha. If they have some similarly priced rods with ARP bolts I think that might be the way to go.

Dustin, I was actually looking at an auction for the kmj rods but the auction was ending too late and I didn't mention it because I couldn't get any responses to my question before the auction ended.

That's a good deal on those scat rods but they're also pressed fit and I of course need floating pins. (The auction for the kmj rods ended at $129 with $16 shipping, it was at $114 when I posted my original question (which was already past my bedtime.... haha)):
