grey280
Hey guys, don't hold your breath on reading this post haha Huge fan of the Hybrid community, like everyone else on here, however I don't think I've ever posted anything. I've got some video links below so if you recognize the problem immediately from experience, drop me a line. Otherwise, I'll still dig through the threads. All in all, I'm sitting in my room in Germany away from my Z, dreaming and crying because I don't have a tool set near me. So here's a post of what's on my mind besides German. I've been working on this swap unfortunately off and on for the past couple years (school and a car in another town don't mix well). I have the motor running (drove in first and in reverse ) and its not running well. Video of motor: Video of gauges: -Its a 77 280Z with a 83zxt motor hooked up to the stocker 4 speed from the 77 motor. all associated parts with the swap except a fabricated J-pipe. -I also have a new 83 zxt alternator and battery in the car, but the electrical measurements have been kinda off (dummy light red on battery gauge, gauge needle rises from 14V with engine speed, however the system doesn't break 16V around 2500) am I missing something? -I'm thinking I have a bad ground, or it could be tied to the alternator, but the ECU has now somehow developed the problem of having intermittent power. Sometimes it has the green light, but after the videos I had to push the car back into the garage. How could a ground become faulty after just sitting in a garage? -You can also hear some slapping. It sounds like a cylinder, however it just began this recent running of the engine. -In the video inside the car, you can see the gauges dimming with lower engine speeds. I know of something called a "monster cap" for stereo amps, so when the sub hits, it doesn't dim the light. Please don't tell me I need stereo crap to fix a dimming light without a stereo in the car? I have no idea how a higher rated output alternator from the zxt would make my gauges dim? Anyways, I figured I should atleast post something on the site I always look though. Too many beautiful Z projects on here. Come April, I'll be back in the states and workin on this girl to get her running correctly; hence why I should introduce the project now so you might be familiar with me later. Thanks for readin, and I'll keep hackin away at these threads tryin to find similar problems. I'm just trying to get a list of what I should focus on when I get home. It sucks tryin to trouble shoot when your on the other side of the world, but its all I have right now. Take it easy guys
woldson
Alternators top out around 14.4volt. Most of my alternators kinda just sucked for many years now. Sometime at idle drop to 12 then back up to 14 with rev of the engine. This why I just bought a high output from Z specialties. Most of the stuff bought a the local parts store kinda suck pertaining to rebuilt parts, (not all but over the years.....I try to buy new.) Search gm 1 wire. Also my ZX alternator upgrade. Only cause I've been here recently did I figure to chime in, however, in the future careful of coming out of the box with too much tude.
