Advantages of a N42 Intake mated with a L28et?

I have searched through different l28et setups to find out that quite a few of you have used the 1975 n42 intake manifold on your p90/f54 l28et's. Is there any advantages to switching to a n42? I say this because I have realized that I have both a 75' intake and a 83' intake.

 

I can see that the runners being spaced apart on the n42 would provide better cooling, why did nissan change the intake design for the l28et?

 

Are the advantages marginal to switch to the n42 and not really worth the time? Is it really just for looks?(as I've been told the valve cover "breather filter" accually is)

Pretty much just an appearance swap. I think i read here somewhere that the turbo manifold runners area actually a tiny bit larger. I know someone here measured various manifolds and posted their results, but you'll have to search some to find it. The non-webbed runners might actually be worse for heat soaking the injectors if no heat shield is used.

The jury is still out on whether the webbing on the manifolds acts like a heat sink or heat shield. Most people go with the N42 manifold for looks and to get rid of the EGR business.

 

There are a couple of members here who have cut theirs open to remove the bosses and bumps inside them then rewelded shut. Also makes it easier to port the runners if you have access to both sides.

Through reading the thread linked I have come to the conclusion that it is purely cosmetic. The runners on the turbo intake may be 2-4% larger, but that isnt enough to account for anything. Also I might add, if I were to go with the n42 intake manifold, Wouldnt wrapping the exhaust manifold "keep the heat were it needs to be" and in turn be more effective than intake webbing?

Having the exhaust manifold and the heat shield both ceramic coated with a 2K coating will reduce heat sink into the manifold dramatically.

The N42 manifold being used in my current application was cut apart, ported and welded back together. Then the manifold was ceramic coated inside and out, what I noticed immediately was that engine water temps would stabilise quicker after heat sinking. A laser therometer was used on a friends modified and uncoated L28et powered 240z and my L30et with coated intake/ exhaust manifolds after a very spirited drive ,the coated intake manifold was 40* cooler.

Umm, totally off subject.. But zeeyaa, you're burnoutZ right? On that username, what did you do to the front end of the z in the default pic? The black one? Parts, bodywork, welding/fiberglass? I gotta know. I can't seem to PM you.

But that is not my car. The gnose kit is a "g-nose scraper" airdam. 280zforce, a member here, has the mold for it. Talk to him about purchasing one.

So you will get better results with including the heat shield that mounts below the n42 intake, rather than running it shaved with no heat shield? Will the Intake stay cooler? Will this increase performance or high boost stability?

 

This being said I have just pulled the n42 intake off my parts car... Im going to take it in tomm. and shave it. What should I shave and what shouldnt I shave? Which are emissions related and which are performance related?

This is what I gather... Am I correct? All of the places tagged "emissions" do NOT effect performance? The stock fuel rail mounts can only be shaved when using a fuel rail? What sensor goes right behind the throttle body? Why do people cap it off? If the fuel pressure regulator mount is shaved where do you put the fuel pressure regulator?

Ok now I feel like an idiot. What I thought was the FPR mount is accually some kind of ventilator mount? I noticed in another thread that what i thought was an "emissions related" add on accually goes to the carbon canister? Someone was saying it could be used for something more useful?

 

Also the Ventilator... wth? I've never heard of one of these things? What is its purpose?
