Gripaholic Posted February 18, 2009 Share Posted February 18, 2009 Okay well I just recently got this car a couple weeks back, it's a '78 280Z with a L28E. I noticed that there were some vacuum lines that were disconnected and vacuum ports plugged up with screws and caps. I've read the FSM, but I just have a couple questions just to make sure and clear some things up a bit. First, the red circle on the charcoal canister (Vaccum signal?). I'm thinkin' that it's supposed to attach to the T on the distributor, correct? Also, does the purge line from the charcoal canister go to the vacuum port circled in blue? Because right now the purge line is capped off with a bolt and I know that's not right at all. Second, is the Fuel Pressure Regulator. When I got the car it wasn't hooked up to a vacuum port so I just hooked it up to the vacuum port circled in green, but I'm thinking it's supposed to go to the capped off vacuum port in orange. If the Fuel Pressure Regulator is in the right spot, what's the vacuum port that's circled in orange hook up to? I've looked through the FSM, but I can't find a complete vacuum diagram. dan5138 Posted February 18, 2009 Share Posted February 18, 2009 My 76 is pretty close to the same. Blue and Green circle first. Blue should go directly to the electronic valve the opens vacuum to the EGR. Green should have gone to the dashpot. Most likely your dashpot leaks, so dont bother uncapping this one. Red circle, there should be a total of 3 lines going into the carbon canister. One is a tank vent, one is a purge line, the third is Yed into your vacuum advance and manifold vacuum. The carbon canistor *should* have labels on it. If all three of these are plumbed up don't worry about a 4th capped line. Finally orange circle, this goes directly to your vacuum resivoir. Where is this component located? *But in the FSM (page: EC-23, Fig. EC-46), it looks like the Purge line from the carbon canister connects here though, does it not? Green - goes to the dashpot, but is it okay to leave my FPR connected there? If not, where should i connect my FPR? Orange - goes to the vacuum reservoir. Which would be where? dan5138 Posted February 19, 2009 Share Posted February 19, 2009 Dumb nissan changing stuff -.-. Blue: do what the FSM tells you. In my car the vacuum resivoir is a yellowish colored platic bottle mounted to your passenger side strut tower. This might only be in cars with A/C... I'm not sure. My 260 had cable operated vent doors and no A/C. The FPR can be hooked up to any manifold vacuum port. However it is a good idea to keep this hose short as possible. Yeah, I don't have an A/C system, but I think my car did come with A/C since I have the A/C switch in my car that goes from off to max. There's a mount there that's probably for the reservoir, but no plastic bottle present. I think I'll leave that Vacuum port with the orange circle capped off.
