Sell yours and buy one built already on Ebay. They keep getting cheaper and cheaper!

yes your correct, from what Ive seen, the quality of the components in some of those lower priced EBAY crate motors EBAY , alows to be sold from less well know sources, keeps dropping LOWER AND LOWER as they find ways to use more, refurbished and imported components of questionable quality.

you might be surprised at the difference in components and quality spending a few extra hundred dollars buys you.

heres a few decent sources

but with careful parts selection you can build a really nice combo yourself

There is a place in Tennesse that sells crate engines on Ebay. They build lots of engines for professional drag racers abd the like and their prices make me wonder why I still don't have an engine from them yet sometimes. A friend of mine had them build an engine for his SRT4 and has been very happy with it.

The ohio crank deals show the 383 for about $2400 but uses a gm 4 bolt block where for $600 more you can get the 406 with the dart block. The 400 is the way to go there, much better foundation and uses the same 5140 crank. I'd call these guys, they can put together a deal also.

Lewis doesn't list any engines packages.

Sallee was bought out by Gilbert, not showing prices AFAIK.

Herbert base price is $3295 and goes up to $7000 for only a 425hp engine, hardly worth that much money for that much HP or lack thereof IMO.

Summit, well, you pay for advertising IMO. I don't buy much of anything from summit.

CNC motorsports on EBAY is cheap and has good quality stuff like EAGLE and can put together a cheap combo. I have bought from them before.

There's a handful of engine shops from TN on Ebay. The one I'd go for would be Precision Auto Machine in Tullahoma...and there's another one in Kingsport (I believe) that is also a good, reputable shop...can't remember the name off hand though.

The Ohio Crank shortblocks are pretty tough to beat pricewise though. It would be tough to build that same shortblock AND have the necessary machining done inside of that price (about $3000)
