turbeau
im putting in an aluminum flywheel, i checked the Haynes manual for torque specs and got 72-80 ft/lbs, the tranny is 5sp, can anyone confirm this? also, should the pilot bearing be flush with the crank when fully inserted? i had to tap my last one in and then had to chisel it out. i always have a hard time putting the transmission back in the crank, any tips for aligning the splines and sliding it in easier? thanks for all the help
josh817
Just eyeball the splines. We got lucky and ours literally popped right in. I did my flywheel bolts to 100ft/lbs with loctite.
zedman240
For aligning the clutch and crank, I found a input shaft from some poor old gearbox that donated it and use that. Saves time and beer...
josh817
Yes thats the clutch to the crank/flywheel but he wants tranny to motor. The input shaft is just like using a clutch alignment tool which typically comes with all clutch setups, it is a good idea to keep an input shaft lingering around for when you don't have the tool. I think I'm the only one who doesn't drink when building a motor/working on a car... ezzzzzzz
Pilot bearing flush. Use an old input shaft or alignment tool. Cut the head off two long bolts and grind flats for a wrench or slot for a screw driver. Install bolts in the block. These are used to align bellhousing to block. Once everything is pulled up snug remove those two modified bolts and insert proper bolts. Drink beer.
