Guest Anonymous
As I just acquired a 97 chev T-56 transmission to put behind my 406 small block, I wanted to get feedback on what clutch setup is best? The stock pull clutch setup or go Weir bell housing setup? Any opinions? Any feedback will be appreciated. Aloha, Sunny
DavyZ
Sunny, I think only Centerforce sells the PRICEY flywheel/clutch combo that works with the T56. I would price both of them out and see what the difference is. I like the idea of Weir's (sp?) bellhousing since it allows you to use stock replacement parts at a fraction of the cost of the Centerforce combo--over time, it (Weir) will be much cheaper to own and maintain. If you find out the $$$, post a reply. Thanks, Davy
deMideon
I am going with the Weir setup. I can easily find exactly the clutch and lightened flywheel I want and the hydraulics are easier and have a bleeder!!!!
DavyZ
Ah! Nice to know someone on the board is going with the Weir setup. Now, how much $$$$ is that puppy??? Davy
Wagz
I should be receiving my Weir setup any day now. The bellhousing, TOB and misc. parts rang up to about $575. I also ordered a Tilton clutch master. It's not cheap up front, but will be cheaper to maintain and give me more options on clutch parts. Besides, it was my Christmas present. I'll post a couple of pics when I unpack it. Here's a link to some Weir info for anyone interested.
DavyZ
Thanks for the article url--very informative and helpful. I do think that is the way to go over the longterm. Davy
Guest Mr. Big Business
I am usign the weir bellhousing as well, since it seemed like the 'cleanest' solution to mating the t56 to me engine. I mostly like the idea of the hydraulic bearing. Plus, the use of a normal clutch made life easier. I don't have it in the car yet, but I'm really happy with the quality of everything so far. Of course, like every other specialized automotive part, the instructions fall somewhere between non-existant to poor, but it's pretty obvious what goes where. I'll post some updates when I finally get this thing into the car. Henry
Danno74Z
Out of all the articles I've read about the T56 tranny and its unique "pull" type of engagement the SPEC clutch is something to look into:2thumbs:. Here is a link to several sites - goodluck. Danno74Z http://www.performanceunlimitedusa.com/SPEC/chevycamaro.htm An article about SPEC clutches: http://www.darkhorseracing.net/toppage3.htm SPEC has a website but it is not up and running. http://www.speclutches.com
