Wheeler
I have looked but have not seen anything on this, has anyone used a universal or custom LS1 mount in their S30? I, like many others have replaced my frame rails and front subframe as well as changed my front T/c pickup points so Johns kit does not work with out major modifications in these applications. Some of the universal weld in Ls1 mounts look like they might work nice, but also might hit the steering shaft. Looking for experience or picture of non-jci LS1 engine mounts. Thanks
Wheeler
Here is a link to one of the many universal mounts that I am talking about: http://http://carshop.carshopinc.com/product_info.php/products_id/86960/2350
Goober
im in the same boat as you are. IM am in the prosses of replacing the frame rails and subframes. Im looking into how to mount the motor and i just found this post. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=116837&highlight=motor+mounts Not sure but i think this is how im going to mount my motor or something close to it. I wont use poly though i will just use rubber so the motor will move a little more but in hopes it wont shake the car as much
Goober
just found these and i think this is what im going to use. I like the way it can mount right on the frame rails and it is adjustable in the distance from the frame rails. http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=TRD-4506&N=700+115&autoview=sku
Wheeler
I have also looked at those mounts, one other problem I see with all these mounts is clearance to get the exhaust between the frame and the engine. I have a set of headers ordered, so once I get them I can see what I have for clearance / room for these type of mounts
Goober
i do agree. But if you can rebuild the frame rails and do floor pans i dont see why you can make your own headers as long as you have pipe bender our you could always modify a set of headers or you could get you a set of shortys. Im going to go to a speed shop so i can test fit different brands of headers
VinhZXT
Wheeler, If you have redone the T/C cup then the CC1LS1 headers might work for you with the C5 style mounts. Pics of the CC1LS1 header http://www.rjays.com/Exhaust/snd-sbc-blockhuggers-01.htm. You should not have any problem on the driver side. The only problem you will have is on the passenger side. I have some pictures on my web site of the passenger side's header http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2079260/3 . I am using the modified C5 headers and they are off the center a little and you can see it is close to the T/C cup. The further it is offset to the rear the closer it gets to the T/C cup. The CC1LS1 header offset to the rear even more compare to the mine. So if you have reduce the T/C cup you might get lucky with the CC1LS1 headers. The engine crossmember for the C5 style mounts can be fab up easily. I am getting ready to redo my crossmember so that I can bolt the new crossmember to the frame rails similar to how the old crossmember bolts to the frame rails. I've been tempting to get these headers and try them out to see they fit my set up.
maichor
I can't believe this is still out there. http://www.geocities.com/maichor75104/index.html You can find some pics of the C5 mounts, as well as my process for getting headers to work for them when no one made them. Street and Performance customized some block huggers for me. I streamlined everything from the pictures there and made an aluminum perch in place of the steel ones pictured there. VinhZXT
I have visited your web site many times before my swap. I couldn't find any headers to fit so I ended up modifying the stock C5 headers. If I didn't have the C5 headers I would probably fab up my own headers by now.
