my buddy is looking to pick up a fully running everything works 52nd anniversary Z31 with a VG30DET. I havent been on this side of the forums for very long now and i was wondering without having to sift through 3 hours of nonsens to find a simple answer. How much can this engine put out without having to do anything internally and also if you can what are its weaknesses

Sorry but your description is a bit vague. A Z31 with what engine? The engine you list does not come with that car..was it swapped in, and from what? If it is the stock engine for a Z31, then what year? Different engine years had slightly different configurations which dictate the possible power output.

For now I assume it is a 50th anniversary 300zxt 1984 with a vg30et making 200hp and 220ft/lbs of torque.

Z31.com has some good write ups about making cheap hp, and how to do it.

In very general terms, 250-300 rwhp is possible on an all stock engine. Change exhaust, injectors, ecu, intake, turbo etc etc.. 400++++ all depending on cubic $$$$

your assumptions are correct and i was talking about what the stock engine could handle hp wise. Like my L28et can handle anything up to almost 400hp with the right tune (depending on parts of course) before i have to go with forged pistons and whatnot. Im just seeing on what to expect with this car once he gets it.

52nd anniversairy? sooo an '86? the only 'anniversairy' edition was a 50th AE that was made in 1984. the stock engine is a VG30ET, not DET (the DET was never offered in north america, infact the only z31 chassis to receive a quad cam engine was the 300zr from japan)

people have laid down 450rwhp on stock bottom end reliably. if you're looking for a good z31 specific forum, check out z31performance.com.
