Angrec
So I have decided to go with my great condition l26 over the bad condition l28e I have. I am also considering a turbo for the l26 but really want to hear from people who did it and see what they say. A few question for those who have done this What method did you use? Did you blow through, draw through, or just convert to E.F.I.? What kind of gains did you get from it? What are your thoughts on the project overall? Been doing some research and I hear nonstop about the difficulties of a carbed turbo setup, wondering the most about peoples thoughts on that. edit Sorry for the little thumbs down thing but I kept getting a "lengthen your post by 1 character" thing and when it worked it magically put that on
FlatBlack
Cursing is really frowned upon here for the most part, I'm surprised the editor didn't catch it. Please clean it up. You say 'great condition' - does that mean you've done a compression test, or are you using the butt dyno to judge that? A member here, Forrest, is running a turbo on an L26 in his 78 Black Pearl. The motor was throw together by the PO and I can't tell you very specific details, but the motor did fairly well considering what it is. I have only worked with L28s so I might be wrong, but the EFI manifolds use a different bolt location than carbs, so you will most likely be looking at getting an L28E head. The P79s and P90s have a larger combustion chamber and would be best for a turbo setup. This thread should be helpful, it has pictures of all [well, most] of the L6 heads, with descriptions. You can find out what head you have my finding the number stamp on the spark plug side towards the pulley side of the motor. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=129066 I would definitely suggest EFI, carb'd blow throw setups are hard to find and not really conducive to tuning. Check out the Turbo Stickies in the turbocharger section, as well as the Megasquirt threads. Good luck on your project
Angrec
Sorry didnt realize that was bad enough to upset anyone, so commonplace for me. But yeah I've checked those threads out and they are informative, just wondering now what people think that have done the turbo methods for the l26.Tons of that on the 28 but very few on the 6. FlatBlack
L28s are plentiful and there's no good reason to turbo an L24 or L26 unless you just feel like it... Did you do a compression test?
