need help diagnosing noise.

i just picked up a '77 280z from my uncle, he thought it had a bad head gasket because of a sound he heard, but there is no oil in the coolant and no coolant in the oil, the engine makes a sort of a popping noise while it's idling, and even when you rev it, he said there was low compression in 2 of the cylinders, but didn't remember which ones.

to me it just sounds like an exhaust leak, like the exhaust manifold gasket might have blown out. i would rather not tear things apart until i had a better idea. i will take a video to post.

Its a blown head gasket dont look for anything else..They blow out the left side so you wont get any water in the oil .....All you need is a head gasket, intake/exhaust manifold gasket and valve cover gasket.. I would change the head bolts too...thats it.. I would go with felpro..You cant beat the price.and it hold the same as nissan oem gaskets.. 22 psi they blow

Do they really? I heard some members talking about how they prefer the Nissan units because they blow out of the left side as you stated, and the Fel-Pros do not.

I put a Fail Pro HG in when I swapped mine out on my F54/P79, but since I am boosting this I am worried about it making a milkshake if it goes.
