RickB
Hey all, I am entering a race this weekend and they state that the car must weigh " within 150lb's of the OEM weight listed on vehicle".... Hmm, the only weight listed on the vehicle is the GVRW. I am looking for some documentation that I can print and carry with me in case they dispute me. They might not enjoy it if I do real well against the predominant Imports...then again they might like it (BTW, My car weighs 2720 w/o driver) 76' 280Z. FYI Drag Wars 2 Ultimate Street Car Challenge Quick 16 Rules: This class is designed for the street racer. NO SLICKS are permitted and no more than one power adder, your full interior must remain... BODY - Full stock import or compact domestic car or truck body INTERIOR - full interior CHASSIS & SUSPENSION - Full stock suspension is required. All components must remain in stock location WHEELBASE - stock only ENGINE - Reserved for 4, 6, 8 cylinder and rotaries POWER ADDERS - One only, no combination such as turbo and nitrous FUEL - gasoline only, no fuel cells DRIVETRAIN & TRANSMISSION - FWD, AWD, and RWD entries allowed. OEM transmission and rear end must be used. (hmm...this may be a tough one???) EXHAUST - Any type of exhaust system permitted (I would have hoped for mufflers??) TIRES - All entries must run DOT approved street RADIALS, Drag radials are permitted. NO SLICKS OR SLICK TYPE TIRES PERMITTED. WEIGHTS - Car must weigh within 150 lbs. of OEM weight listed on vehicle.
Kevin Shasteen
The curb weights of the Z are an illusive animal. I've got three or four Datsun manuals & not one of them have the curb weights listed! About the OEM trans...your trans is OEM (OEM for GM); gonna depend on the interpretation of the rules Smokey Yunik...er-uh/I mean Rick! RickB
Thanks! BTW, from what I understand the intent of the OEM trans rule is to weed out purpose built aftermarket trannys... I hope I can run this event and class *this Saturday!). thanks again,
Kevin Shasteen
Nice list Night Rider; thanks for going thru the trouble of posting all that info! RickB, since your tras is OEM, the only "RedFlag" to watch out for are any descriptions w/in the rules that excludes a trans transplanted from one Mfg into Another...AKA: your GM 700 into a Datsun(?). When is the Import Race...that would be pretty fun to watch a V8Z putting the smack down on the other cars. If they allow V8's then why wouldnt they allow your 700? I dont know the rule but to me if they allow V8's then they shouldn't exclude your trans either...good luck. Guest Night_rider_383
Kevin... No prob bud. That list is something we all can use and i ran across it and trans and rear gear ratio's for the z's the other night so i had it saved to my desktop. RickB
yeah thanks again Knight...! BTW, that weight (2875 for the 280Z) seems high as my car only weighs 2720 with the V8. I have lost the bumpers though and have Enkei's all around but still???

Kevin, (Yea,Still an Inliner) Kevin...not to worry, I called the promoters and I am in! One prob though (possibly). They are going to allow Mustangs in as domestic compacts??? I could have my hands full with those Vortech 5.0's...hopefully they'll have traction probs (or stay home

Guest RXO510
Great info! Going to go to Kinkos and get a poster size of that info! Thanks J & G
biohzrd
what were the major factors in the diff. weights.i see that the 240,260,and early 280 z's all had the same wheelbase. was it in the bumpers and sound deadener that was used or is it in other places. how would someone go about getting the weight back down to the lower 2000 lb. range. i'm still a newbie to the sight so any info would help in my selection. i know were there are both a 72 240 and a 77 280. the guy with the 240 wants a lot more than the guy with the 280 so thats why i am so intrested in this. thanks biohzrd
Guest bang847
when i need my car weight i just put some cardboard in my trunk and head to the paper recyclers. your car weighs in and then it weigh out. and if you bring enough cardboard then they even give you some change. but thats in downtown Los Angeles.... i know scrap metal facilities have scales too.. GrayZee
The government truck weigh stations around here are usually closed on Sundays, but when they are closed you can still drive over the scale and they put the meter in the window so that the truck drivers can check their weights. Maybe that is a common practice though Canada and the US? My 76 280z was just over 2900 lbs with me in it.
fl327
you can also go to the local town dump and weigh your car, just clean out your garage as an excuse, people do it all the time.
