hey getting ready to give it another go at the track, need to straighten a few things out before i get out there though. are you guys using stock datsun driveshaft bolts out there, i am not and i found that two of them were loose last night, havent tightened them yet i just let the red dog relax. also, i do notice that after running the car hard for a while the r200 will leak a little bit, is that normal?? i think i read from mr. Lone that his diff "sweats" a little after running it hard, im planning a partial teardown of drivetrain to get some vibration out of it, and wondering what you guys have come up with for driveshaft bolts. also wondering what r200 about to blow up signs are, im probably being a hypochondriac about this but i swear its a little noisier back there, thanx in advance guys, holla.

Hey Len, haven't heard from you in a while. Been busy with school?

You make me nervious when you talk about loose drive shaft bolts. Especially the way you drive. nono.gif Drop by a driveline shop and get your bolts there. The bolts should be grade 8 at least and have an unthreaded shank that extends past the point where the yoke and the input flange mate. A thread there acts like a score in the bolt and weakens it. The nuts need to be grade 8 as well, either nylock or "c" pattern. C pattern are the ones that have the dimples on the flats and are hard to tighten up because they have been squished a little. With either one use a little lock tight on the threads.

You do that, you shouldn't have anymore problems. 2thumbs.gif

Heh, yeah mine sweats for sure after I go out and heat the diff fluid to a few thousand degree's.. :D

BTW I'm using a capscrew and nylock nut and locktight on my driveline bolts, havn't loosened yet, but I don't launch my car as much or often as you do either. I agree though, get some good bolts in there dude, you don't need a driveline slapping you in your haid... :D

Lone

Heh heh, your right Len, I guess I ain't beat on it hard enough yet, I must take some lessons... :D (probably only two easy lessons, foot on floor for several seconds, pop clutch and be ready to shift... smile.gif ). Once I get the R200 in there bro, I intend to abuse it plenty, afterall, I can't disappoint the king of street racing.. smile.gif

Regards,

Lone

Ps: I think my brothers been beating on my car though, he called the other day to tell me he took it to the gas station and the starter heat soaked and then apparently died, so he towed it home and now I have a car to fix as soon as I get there... I tell ya... Time for a remote starter solenoid, that heat down there is fatal to already hot starters.

wish i could afford one of those six speeds, i think thats the only trans that would live behind the way i drive sometimes. god i used to absolutely love powershifting and clutchless, ive not been doing that, will be getting car ready for increased daily driving, starter solenoid is a good thing, even when my car is hot it takes just one instant longer to start, and i have the summit style one. anyways youre doing good by not dogging the car out until you got the r200 in, hey if it aint broke, break it ;)

i heard somewhere that the stock z shaft bolts were tapered? snapped three at once somehow, rockon.gif and last time i went and did xmember install and what not i went grade8 with nylock but no locktite, im gonna try to run a grade 8 bolt with no thread where mr.D specified. im out of school for the summer, thats the reason im never on the forum, no more papers to type and read the forum in between paragraphs. mr. Lone, thats why you dont pop an r180-youre not trying hard enough buddy, im convinced an r200 can take a lot of pain, you got a six speed wheres the 4.11 yazzitrakshun @?

im gonna be plenty busy over next month or so, in my garage and in my bosses garage, next time most of you will see again you will be able hear what im listening too plenty far away...too far..... fo speed baby, fo speed

Len, you're the poster boy for high strength driveline parts :D

So I think you might want to consider NAS aircraft bolts (not AN). NAS bolts are expensive, but very strong in shear, which is what you want. They come in different "grip" lengths, with short threaded portions, and you can pick a bolt that has just enough grip for the driveshaft yoke and diff flange.

You can get them at Aircraft Spruce, etc. Here's their online catalog : http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catmain.php?dest=cathome.php

Follow it to Hardware, then Bolts, then NAS.

They can be ordered with the threaded end drilled for cotter pins (see below).

Definitely not cheap (I can't remember the price, but not for the light hearted), but they're very strong and you'll probably not need to worry about shearing them! They also have MS (milspec) nuts that are locking and use cotter pins. With the locking nut and cotter pins you should have no problems.
