Administrators BRAAP Posted October 4, 2009 Administrators Share Posted October 4, 2009 Dose anyone have advice or has anyone cleaned and serviced their mass air flow sensor. Should i even clean it?? if so how? What year is the car? Your user name indicates 280-ZX. The 280-ZX never came with a Mass Air Flow sensor. Daniel280zx
Yes i have 280zx, I have unfortunately been using the wrong name for it then, it is the kind of large part before the throttle body and after the air filter. It has the flap in it that opens as air is drawn into the engine. hopefully you know what i am talking about. My car idles high sometimes, randomly at about 1000 rpms when it usually idles at about 700 rpms i have check everything and i am out of things to check so i wanted to clean this part to see if it would solve my problem. I would really appreciate any suggestions, thanks.

Administrators BRAAP Posted October 5, 2009 Administrators Share Posted October 5, 2009 That parts is the Air Flow Meter. It does not "directly" control idle speed and should not need cleaning. Fluctuating idle speed can sometimes be due to sticky BCDD, sticky throttle body and/or linkage, vacuum leak due to cracked intake boot, or if your car has or had Air Conditioning, the idle speed compensator for the A/C could be triggering, (I am pretty sure the '79 used the same vacuum operated A/C idle speed compensation that the later ZX's used). Do you have a service manual for the car? Even a Haynes manual? You can get a Haynes manual at the local auto-parts store. Also, search for the EFI bible. It is a web link that walks your through the EFI system and diagnosing issues related to it.
Daniel280zx
Wow Thanks! i will look into every one of those things, and yes i have the Nissan service manual for it and i have been reading into things. Im going to clean the throttle boddy this weekend. I have gutted the hole car and removed everything that to do with the ac. the A/C vacuum valve could be sticking could be sticking because i have had the car jutted for a while and never had this problem.
