Brackets Revisited

Recommended Posts

Has anyone seen this months advertisement from Vintage Air in the Chevy High Performance magazine?

I believe it was on page 69 or 70, something like that; dont have it in front of me at this time. It was in the upper right hand corner of the right page.

It is a one piece alluminum bracket that utilizes the typical bolt hols on the block and kind of wraps around the water pump (bummer if you have to replace the water pump).

This one piece bracket allows the use of a serpentine belt. It also allows the accessories to be closer towards the center of the engine block (more compact)...for all of us who have clearance issues this would be nice.

Just thought I'ld pass the word; looked nice...but of course you know that 'nice' also means "EXPENSIVE".

Sounds like the 88-92 Camaro setup. You can get one on eBay for about $200 with all of the accessories. You can probably find one in a junkyard near you, but usually aren't complete. Cost is about $650 from GM (It's in the Scoggin Dickey catalog) and DOES NOT come with any of the accessories. Requires a reverse rotation water pump and is NO help if you have the LT1 with the Camaro accessory drive.

According to the picture (Chevy High Performance Magazine) it didnt utilize a reverse rotation water pump....the bracket was for the older generation V8's.

The article claimed this bracket which allowed newer accessories took them "Vintage Air" two years of R&D; it isnt the same unit GM sells. It may be based on the same concept, but according to Vintage Air-it is their design, not GM's.

I guess the only way to confirm it is to call Vintage Air and ask them for details or even have them send you information.
