mchong75
I need help guys. I just took delivery of my 280z from a transporter but had to roll the car out. It wont go into any of the gears from a standing point. The clutch is fully pressed to the floor. Trying to engage into 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and reverse but nothing. I was able to get it in gear after we pushed the car. What is the problem?

mchong75
problem is, you dont know how a hydraulic clutch works, time to google it! (also, before this hits the shed, search!) Wow! Thanks for the big help. I did search and found few things about slave and master clutch cylinders. May be the problem or not. But, when you say "problem is, you don't know how a hydraulic clutch works", you indicating I don't know how to drive a manual.

But, when you say "problem is, you don't know how a hydraulic clutch works", you indicating I don't know how to drive a manual. Because driving a manual transmission car and knowing how it works is 2 totally different things.... I know plenty of people who can drive a manual, ask them how it works and they say you push the far left pedal to the floor and put the stick in the middle into 1st gear and slowly let the far left pedal up while giving it some gas and off you go So, it won't go into any gear.... Is there clutch fluid in the clutch master? Have you tried bleeding both the clutch master and slave cylinders? Does the slave cylinder even move the clutch fork when pressing the clutch pedal? Will it go into all gears with the engine off and just sitting still? Basics is what he was trying to tell you... Searching this site and even just googling the symptoms will give you the answers that I just posted and more....

I was "indicating" that you should use google to find out how a hydraulic clutch works, then go and diagnose why your clutch doesnt work. galloguy05
I used to be in your situation. I knew how to drive stick but wasnt sure how it worked. So one day I went to drive my Z and i cant get it in gear. COme to find out that the clutch had lost all fluid and adding more fluid fixed the problem temporarily. Later found out that my slave cylinder is leaking. So Im just replacing both the master cylinder and slave cylinder and that will fix the problem (for me anyways, and Im guessing it will for you as well). I know this was stated by an above poster already so im not trying to sound "smarter" than anyone, just wanted to let you know that your not the only one out there thats in your situation on not knowing what to look at or fix. Luckily I had a friend over to tell me what was wrong before I posted something on hybrid about it and got yelled at by the search nazis. lol Btw my clutch slave and master cylinder came to a total price of like 42 buck on ebay to replace for brand new replacements. I have a 75 with the stock 4 speed
