Struggling with which V-8 to go with?...

All the research that Ive done you cant use a chevy mounting kit with a ford. You might want to hit up guys like Braap, Johnc, Grumpyvette. Ive seen those guys one here for 10+ yrs and they have far more knowledge than I do and prob know the answers better than me. My advise, unless you have a good amount of disposable income building the perfect engine and perfect zcar wont happen. I thought that was what I was going to do. Arizona z car parts at each corner a new rear , etc. The problem with me and prob a lot of guys here life happened. I had to get a new mower, kids needed this. At one point I had enough money to buy all 4 corners complete and ended up spending that on a new roof for our house. 10yrs has passed me by and I still dont have an engine in the car let alone all of the other stuff I wanted. Thats why I'm leaning, or I should say falling towards an engine thats all ready together. get it in there and worry about the ponies later. I just have to stop dragging my feet when I come across good deals on engines. lol. but thats me.

For me the doner car was the way to go. My plan was get it running and all the bugs worked out and then upgrade.

I was able to get a driveable 94 Z28 LT1 for $1500. I pulled the engine, tranny, fuel tank (not really necassary), the complete chassis wiring harness (again not really necassary) the PCM and all the engine wiring. I sold off what I didn't use and actually made a few hundread bucks. Selling salvaged parts isn't the most fun or easy but if you're lucky like I was you get all the stuff you need for free. I ran that engine and tranny for 2 years. I have since built a new engine and aquired a new performance tranny.

I am into my swap about 3-1/2 years, wife and kid needs, house/ appliance needs and even a job layoff. My advice would be to put your z swap plan on paper or spreadhsheet, I did not at first and I bought stuff I did not need, and just changing direction. Try not to settle and get the drivetrain you truly want you will be happier in the end.

I get a several thousand $ bonus every december..deal is wife/house gets 1/2 i get the rest..in tax season 50% of the return is mine..usually my share is a couple grand..so between december and march cash comes in..the rest of the year is the extremely hard manual labor..before i send the chasis to the fabricator for repairs i am going to hand strip the underside to reveal all hidden stuff..i can't wait to raise her up..crawl under and sand away!!! NOT! My job slows down around jan-march..so lots of days off to do this really fun stuff.

Yes i need a new roof..that is this spring..i do it myself and save 75% with the help of friends..yes i helped them do their roofs..

One good deal is I have alot of connections thru friends..the fabricator is amazing..he does restorations on classics only..where huge chunks of those cars are rusted away..i have seen his work..he is amazing. I went to him mentioned my friends name as a referal to him..he told me that guy has spent tons of money at his shop and is giving me a huge discount.

My goal is 5 yrs..if it takes 6-7-8 it will teach me patients i hope.

Was talking about my plans for the look of the car with my wife and wanted to find an artist to do a rendering of my idea's..she asked about a computer program..will photoshop allow me to manipulate fenders or just colors?
