johnc
A friend has a Long-EZ out at Fullerton airport and I've seen the local police check the fueling ramp for cars filling up. I've never seen them arrest anyone but I have seen them write tickets - for what I don't know.
Guest Rolling Parts
Gas is gas is gas That used to be the case but gas is no longer gas. AvGas is different, it's blended to be much more stable over time. Automotive "gas" will go stale much faster and it now usually has alcohol (which will absorbs water which is a concern if your steel tank vents directly). AvGas is a great fuel for a 1970's vintage hobby car that you don't take on the street all that much. Buy it while you can because it's days are numbered. There is no such thing as an FAA "ramp check" for non-pilots or people without aircraft.

If they see it go directly into a car, then that becomes the local cop's jurisdiction (road taxes, local taxes, emissions, etc).
letitsnow
There have been some BIG arguments on dirtbike forums about avgas vs 93 vs c16. IIRC avgas is much less volatile, it vaporizes much less readily and this kills throttle response.....on a bike, which can go from idle to 13k in ~.1 sec. I don't think it's a big issue with a mixture in an average hot street car.
