Guest Anonymous
Hi guys, New to this board. Hope I am welcomed. I've owned 4 Zs. Had a 77, an 83. Have a 91 and just got another 77 in great shape. 92,000 orig miles. Everything on her is in good-togreat shape. Buttttt I want to make her better than new. I'm thinking of a V8 swap instead of a new rebuild from Motorsport. I'm wondering what I can expect in performance changes. If I remember right 0-60 on a new 77 was like 8.7 sec? And Im in PA/NJ/DE tri state area. Anyone give me a reference on a good place to do this work around here? Many thanks. Ken
Guest Anonymous
welcome aboard,,If your gonna do the job yourself ,you are gonna need the swap book from JTR . (jags that run) They have a site online where you can purchase the book(about 35 dollars ) if I remember right. Or you can get it through Summit racing, on line. The book claimes a 180hp 350 will do 0 - 60 in under 7 sec. A 300 hp... well lets just say very quick. This is a great forum,, very sharp people and lots of help. Have fun !! ------------------ 74 260, early 350,K.B.pistons,edelbrock manifold, carb, and cam,202 cast iron heads.Let the transformation begin. Mikelly
Ken, I live in Virginia which isn't too far from you. Have you considered doing the work yourself? I'm sure someone out there will do it for you, but it is gonna be super expensive.... Conversions run high through shops. Guest Anonymous
Thanks for the response so far guys and the welcome. Id try to do it myself but I just dont have the right place to do it at this time. Maybe that can be worked out. Anothe Q is when I took her in for inspection here in PA the info under the hood said no catalytic needed. On a 77 I was surprised but HAPPY. Now does that mean I have to stay with an older 350 as well to avoid the emissions? And as far as performance, geez guys have you seen the ads for some of the new sedans with 300 hp? Hell I need 0-60 times in the 5 second range just to keep up with the Jone's!
SpeedRacer
Welcome Ken - I think you will find there a great bunch of guys here who are all willing to help you. BTW if you want to keep up with the Jones's (Ron Jones that is) you will have to do the 1/4 in 8.56@160!!!! Pretty amazing huh. You can check out his car in the Members Rides area. Good luck on your project.
