240zBoy
I am looking for an 3.54 r200 companion flange for 72 240z. As you can see in the pic I have it on the right but not the left. Also if anyone would happen to have a 29 spline 280z halfshaft that would be awesome cause I only have one. I nearing this point in a couple weeks to put it in and just cannot find anywhere or anyone that would have it.
NewZed
Picture of the 280Z half-shafts. R180 has splines, R200 has two flanges. Hope this helps. Edited February 6, 2010 by NewZed Wondering why I posted in the first place. No offence.
240zBoy
Well that halfshaft for the r200 I have has like a spindle thing with 29 splines on it if thats a better way to put it. I always thought that whats people refer to for clarification but I really am not quite sure now. It has the 4 bolt end to it with a spindle that goes into the diff. Atleast this link is where i got that info from. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=159365
NewZed
Are you sure that the half-shaft does not still have the side flange bolted to it? The shaft might have been popped out with the half-shaft attached. You should post a picture of the "29 spline 280z halfshaft". I think that you'll need part or two more also for your swap. Here's a link to a thread from a guy who did something similar. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26067 Re my Edit comment above - I was just referring to the fact that I'm not really an expert. I only replied initially because I'm working on my 280Z diff right now so was interested. A 240 guy probably knows exactly what you need. Good luck. cockerstar
What you're looking for are called stub axles. I've never been 100% straight on what a companion flange actually is, but what you need there is most definitely a stub axle. I just had to buy a set for my r200 swap
240zBoy
Thanks cockerstar. Atleast I have an expensive backup option of converting to cv at modernmotorsports now that I have found some stuff using stub axels in my search. But anyways heres a picture of the halfshaft. Pics are from my phone so yes they stink but it gets the point across.
NewZed
Fun, fun, fun. I think that I see bolt heads and nuts on your half-shaft (acck). Take a close look. Compare it to the drawing I sent. Try to fit the splines into the r200 hole. Take those nuts off and see if you are left with two parts, a half-shaft with a four-hole flanges on each end, and a spline shaft with a flange on it. My guess is that someone tried to lift your R200 by the half-shaft and the side flange popped out. I think you have a complete R200 there. As far as names, it looks like both sides, wheel and differential, can be called stub axle, depending on who is writing. They look similar. Search "stub axle" and you'll see people using the same name for both. Here is a link about broken stub axles, wheel side - http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=70261, and a discussion about stub axle diff side - http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=122412 Zboy are trying to fix an R180 in your 240 or swapping an R200 for a 180? It's not clear what you're trying to do. Here is some good reading too - http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=116207 Is this a Pacific Northwest only topic? Must be the rain... 240zBoy
Oh wow I got home and I am really stupid omg.hahaha. Your pictures explained everything and it was on the end. I was trying my other halfshaft from a r180 cause they look similiar and would not slide in, but the r200 one was in my box of parts. Now I just need another half shaft which will be easy to find. Thanks a lot NewZed.
