I have question. I have to assamble my BW t5. and it is bolted up right now, but i have the feeling it doesnt shift rigt laying next to the car.

Does it have to be set in a certain gear when installing the top cover? or not ?

Im talking about this cover:

I just want to be sure before i fill it up with oil and start the car granading the gearbox, as they are far and few over here.

So any help would be wecome.

I assembled mine in neutral. The big key is to make sure that the 5/R finger that runs up the left side of the box is centered and that it fully engages with the little ring thingy at the end of the shift fork. IIRC the correct way to do this is to put the cover on in neutral with it offset to the right side as far as possible and once you get the two forks in and lined up, slide it across the top of the box all the way to the left until the bolt holes line up.
