I like the flares alot, the rear valance is really sweet to. The wheels, well not so much for me, my reason is the wheels overpower the lines of the car in my opinion. Some black centers like a Carrera or Epsilon type wheels would have suited me better. *Shrug* icon_smile.gif

Hmmm... Another hot body from Sweden eh?

I like the hood and fender louvers, wonder how he did that? The rear end and flares are sweet too. Kinda looks like a Porshe 930? Man, I really gotta finish my Z!

Are those wheels made by a company named something like - and I REALLY don't think I've got this name right - Cromodora(?) A company with a name similar to that used to be an OEM for some Ferrari models and some of the Alfas in the 70's and 80's, and if my frequently faulty memory serves, they made a wheel that looked alot like those.

They also appear to be centerlock hubs. Sweet car, very clean lines - but just enough "unusual" detail to really stand out.

I must say, I'd probably not have done the whaletail or the Pyramid shaped side mirrors, but other than that it's one sweet ride! The gill slits on the fender are first rate, and I agree that the fender flares are MUCH better integrated than most offerings. And the wheels add just enough flash to an otherwise monochrome offering.

Even the Russian judge gives it 9 out of a possible 10! icon_wink.gif

Hey guys - I know the guy that owned and built this car. He is now on the Roadster list and is building two custom Silvia's. The old Datsun Silvia's from '64 and '65 that used a Roadster frame/engine/trans/body tub. He has a web page at

http://w1.590.telia.com/~u59003583/

He is Thomas the Swede. Very smart guy and loves his cars! I may be wrong, but I think this Z was totalled - hope I am wrong. I will ask him.

Bummer that you are not part of the Z crowd anymore! I'm very impressed with your skills on the bodywork for the Z car. It looks so absolutely beautiful--especially the way the rear valence comes under and sits so well aginst the rear flares...perfect stance too! Thanks for the description of the car, Thomas! I hope my Z will one day look as good as yours icon_biggrin.gif

Thanks for the comments guys. Somebody

mentioned 8x16" wheels and flares. A

friend had 8x16" & 225/50-16 on his

260Z with no flares. I think the offset

was different front and rear. He used

the car for racing too. In 1982-87 I

had 8.5x15 & 225/50-15 front and 11x15 &

285/40-15 rear. There were only one choise

of tires, Pirelli P7, before 1986. Because

of the small diameter tires the car was 1/2"

lower than with the early 17" wheels. Also

the body was reinforced with about 90 feet

of 1.5" tubing. The engine torque would

twist the body so the passenger door would

click open on full power before I did this.

The floorpan had long cracks along the

transmision tunnel when I installed the

tubing. For anyone making steel flares,

dont use aftermarket 930 fenders. The steel

in the OE Porsche parts are made from

softer zinc plated "AK steel". Also dont

use bondo on the steel, use tin instead.

Got to go. There are so many cookies to

remove after every visit.

Hey guys, I'm the one who built the car.

The car was sold new in California to a

Swedish woman who later took it home with

her. It was yellow with 6x14" mag wheels.

I had it from 1981 to 1998. I sold the car

in parts to Norway. The photos are from

1989. I used OEM Porsche steel rear

fenders and cut them up to fit the car.

Front fenders, hood, tailgate, bumpers,

rear wing and front cowl panel were

fibreglass. Even the roof was modified.

The wheels were Compomotive FH(?)

(copy of Speedline for Ferrari F40)

8x17" with 215/45-17 front and 10x17"

with 255/40-17 rear. This was when 17"

wheels were the largest size to buy.

Tire sizes were limited. The center lug

nuts were real BBS 73 mm hubs. All vents

were functional. Tailights were 1984

Corvette. The whale tail was not that

pretty but it was functional. Top speed

was more than I ever found out. I only

did 175 mph and it was pushing for more.

3.36:1 R200LSD and a B&W T5. It was loud

too, only a 3-1/2" pipe going from the

turbo, but still legal here. It could

eat Porsche 930's for dinner and a lap

at Nurburgring in 9 minutes. There were

more custom "did that before anyone else"

stuff in it but it's no my car anymore.

I ran into a fox that got wedged into the

oilcoolers in 1990 and after that I just

left the car for 8 years before I parted

it out. I could not sell any of it in

Sweden. It's going to be put together

again with a Skyline engine by the new

owner, I'm told. He can do whatever he

want with it except to paint it red. That

was the only thing he had to promise me.

I'm no expert on Z-cars but I made this

one. If I had to build one again, I would

do it slightly different.

I now have two 1965 Silvia CSP311 (the

only two existing i Europe) that I

will customize a little and an almost

as rare 1984 BMW M6. Sorry guys but my

Z-car days are history for me.
