Kyle's LS1 Z build

Recommended Posts

I've been on this forum for a while and decided to share my car's progress. I picked up a 78z with a solid body for a hundred bucks about a year and a half ago. It had a G nose on it and I ended up trading it for a factory nose with a member on this board. It's going to be powered by an LS1 with the 4l60e trans. I will try and show progress as i make it weekly. Thanks to everyone who has offered input and help.

Did you try on a set of headers before you made the mounts?

Mocked them up with the stock z28 manifolds. Still had to modify them a little bit, the collectors and 02 sensors would not clear. From what I can tell, the Sanders headers should also fit. I'm also open to building headers. I placed the LS1 as far back and as low as possible.

  • 4 weeks later...

The car sat for 4 weeks with no progress! I ended up helping a friend swap a motor into his toyota, along with kids sports and out of town company taking up my Saturdays. I'm back to it and will be installing the engine/trans tomorrow. Here are a few pics of last weekends progress.

Primed and painted LS1 and Trans. Painted with Dupont Viper Silver Base/Clear.

Taken with my phone, I really need to remember to bring my digi camera.

Fuel Rails. My brother Kevin made the Throttle Body "LS1" plate before he passed away. It's a very sentimental piece.

More pics to come guys. I will post progress from start to finish of this car.
