Twice Pipe question

Hi guys, I plan to put a MSA twice pipe exhaust to my 260z. My question is I'm plan to use stock header, due to

tight budget. So will this be paint of the axx for the installation? Or I have to upgrade my header as well??? And

I plan to add a cat on it to cut down some toxic fume and lower the sounds a bit, since this setup is bit LOUD! Thanks

for any inputs. I did search around using the SEARCH button and find plenty useful information about twice pipe system,

but find nothing about regarding stock's header with this swap.

Did you call MSA? It looks like they have a twice pipes kit for the stock manifold.

 

Either way the only problem I could see is the pipe diameter not matching up, which any good exhaust shop can fix right?

I had that setup on my old '78. It mated no problem to the stock manifold. There was an issue reusing the stock gasket. The original piping was not flush and thus the gasket could "rest" on the lower pipes. On the twice pipes, or at least mine, there was no extra piping and the gasket is literally held there by the pressure of the bolts when you torque it down. Might want to use some sealer to insure a good, snug fit.

 

Other than that, I don't know where you would put a cat. The system goes from stock manifold to a 2.5 collector/merge pipe and then out to the dual pipes. Unless you hack into that collector there really is no where to put a cat. To my knowledge, no one has twice pipes AND a cat.

 

I'd run it straight and if its too loud for you, talk to an exhaust shop. Maybe you could fit some other glasspacks along the duals...hmm....

 

If I were you though I'd save for some headers....it is MUCH deeper with the 3-2-1 which I'm running now. Not sure how the 6-1 and twice pipes sound though.

I tried sending you a pm but it wasn't working. You local to cars n coffee in Irvine? Me and some other Z guys are going this saturday if you wanted to meet up and head down. Not sure where you're at in "socal."

Thanks for the reply guys. Another question, does anyone knows what's the exhaust's tip size MSA is using for this system? My guess is 2-1/4" or 2.5", but not sure. Anyone who has this MSA twice pipe system can help me out???? Thanks.
