Haven't logged in here in a long time, but if it makes you feel better I got to see a real 250 GTO a couple days ago (up close personal and in a shop with the engine out for a rebuild)

That's right folks in Phoenix, there is a real '62 250 GTO here in town and in damn good shape other than the engine's out for a rebuild. It is definitely the real deal and I dang near wet myself with excitement when I saw it in the course of my work.

Now I'm not gonna divulge it's whereabouts because I'm sure the guy that runs the business it's at probably doesn't want a bazillion people coming to his shop to ogle it.

In any case it was a very pleasant surprise to come across.

Better still I'm working on employment at that place that it's at. So I might be able to sneak a peak at it pretty regularly if not even something cooler like work on the rebuild or maybe even something better than that like a test drive (wouldn't that rock?).

Crossing my fingers anxiously though in the meantime. Makes me want to get working on my Garage Queen 240 again oddly enough.

Reading 240zinPHX's excitementover the 250, I remembered last year a guy I know that has one got T-boned at about 25mph by a stupid woman in a Dodge Shadow, she blew a red light. Yes, it is a real 250 GTO. The first words out of his mouth were ,"You better have good insurance." He also has an F-40, some rare race car with a V-12 open exaust and a VERY small winshield (1 of 3 built), and a few other Ferrari's and he drives them all on the street (no kiddin'). He's a really nice guy and drives his F-40 everywhere, and I mean everywhere. He beats the hell out of it. Takes it to Elkahrt Lake sometimes, just to have fun. Man, I wish I had money like that. You don't even want to know how much it costs to do JUST a brake job on a F-40. icon_eek.gif

Here's a really nice Ferrari site and in part of it they list all the GTO's by serial number, their history, who owns them now and where they are located. http://www.barchetta.cc/english/All.Ferraris/summary/SN.250.GTO.62.htm

BTW, in the early 80's serial number 4293 was sold to a Japanese gentleman for $14.6 million - the most anybody has ever paid for an automobile !!!!

Currently most GTO's go for $6-$8 million.

Staledale - my GTO is a little different because it's an Alpha One model but I will help all I can. Just let me know what you need.

Of course you can find pictures of mine right here under the "Featured Cars" section.

Our friend John Washington from VR Engineering http://www.reactionresearch.com/automotive.html created the GTO Replica Registry gtorr.com site. Around 1992-93 Terry Watson (out in CA.) started a "GTO Replica Register" in paper form that listed all the known GTO replicas, vehicle and owner info. He would periodically publish a newsletter and update the list as well. It was a great resource but Terry got too busy to keep up with it.

So John Washington took it over and has, I believe, all the old newsletter copies and vehicle lists. Someday he would like to put all of that out on the gtorr.com site. It would be nice if somebody with a scanner to convert these and put them out on the site for everybody's reference. icon_biggrin.gif

Thanks Speedracer for that site. And if John Washington is out there, let me know and I'll help on the gtorr site any way I can. Got the scanner, got the time, let me know. Thanks to all the guys that e-mailed me. Thats where the GTORR would come in handy.

Cool website, I love that Jag XJ-13. I'm thinking of scratchbuilding one to put my Jag V-12 engine into, as it looks as though it wont fit into my 240 Z. Major drawback of having the car in AZ and going shopping for powerplants in San Diego. twak.gif

Good luck on the GTO Dale

Man now I'm starting to wonder if the one I saw is one of those Reina ones, I didn't see one listed in Phoenix on that site with all of em. Hrmmm. Well it's nice whatever it is, I'll try to find out more as I can. (and pics if possible too).

I have an unfinished kit from Blue Ray GT or Rhino that is now Stable Auto Works. The kit is a little disapointing as to finish. but came with some great Dayton wire wheels. There was no replica dash with the kit. I do have the Blue Ray manual. I understand that if you have the non tilt frontend there is a need to laminate a metal mounting bracket to the fiberglass fender area to bolt to the body below the windshield post area on each side.Just about every metal fender application that I have seen has this mounting bracket on the fender to attach to the body below the windshield post and between the door and fender. This may help in removing your gap by adding more adhesion to the body to close the gap.Particular attention must be paid to enlarging the wheel openings to the rear fenders by folding over the excess sheetmetal above the wheel wells.Where can I get the 250 replica dash?/// Thunder Ranch or John Washington??? Also I have the Origin convertible kit : a few years I went a little crazy and bought a few unfinished dreams including a Tommahawk Z which is a great kit by the perfectionist Rory Bateman. After I got divorced there was no stopping my Z car obseesion that smoldered from the sales phenomenon of the early 1970's

Hi, Folks!

I AM still around, but as usual have been too busy to surf the boards a lot.

I'll be sending out a press release in the near future to announce that my little company has been acquired. I'll still be involved, but the day to day stuff will be handled by Harley Lever (info@reactionresearch.com, for the moment), a great guy who is coming up to speed pretty quickly.

Part of our plan is to vastly improve the VR Engineering website and the GTORR website to get some of Terry's info and a lot more out there.

For now (and until I can get Harley onto the message boards) I offer the following info:

We do have replica dashes. There are two: one like the old Alpha kits had, and one made by Jim Simpson. The latter is the one I prefer. It's a little more expensive but looks a lot more like the original.

Anyone else who needs help with other stuff, please feel free to contact Harley. If he doesn't know the answer, he knows how to find me!
