Rear Seal Advice

Installing the rear main seal on my stroker project.

The pics in the Datsun rebuild book aren't exactly clear.

Which way do the side seals go in relation the the expander and which direction do the

rubbers seals face? Does the "U" of the seal face inward toward the motor or outward toward the

fenders....so to speak? I assume outward but need to be sure.

I think the convention is to actually fill the U with silicone - that's what I did. I don't remember what book I read it in, but I feel like I did read it somewhere I felt was legitimate. I've also noticed it's much easier to put the rubber seal in first, and then push the expanders in. I think I put mine in with the same orientation you show in your picture.

 

Just my two cents. My engine hasn't exploded yet...

Ya,I have a couple of books suggesting the silicon..The direction I have the seals pointing seems to make sense...thanks, steve
