Redrilling wheels with a new lug pattern?

I found this really nice set of 16x10 deep dish wheels for sale that I would like to use for my 240z. Unfortunately the wheels have a lug pattern of 5x4.5†(114.3mm) and I would like to have then filled and redrilled to a 4x4.5†lug pattern.

 

Anyone have any experience with getting wheels redrilled with a new lug pattern?

I have been doing a fair bit of internet research on the subject and it seems that a lot if people have had success getting wheels redrilled (especially on the BMW forums). On the flip side there are guys who say it is the worst thing you could possibly do.

It doesnt seem very safe but I dont know much about metallurgy.

 

Have you considered a set of wheel adapters?

The 5x114.3 to 4x114.3 adapters are two inches thick and with 16x10 wheels that would be pretty extreme, I have no idea about drilling the wheels but you can always drill out your drum brakes and buy some 5x114.3 hubs.

Unfortunately the 5 lug conversion is too expensive for me at this time.

the best way to go about anything is to save up and do it right the first time.

Just sell those and get a new set with the right bolt pattern and back space. Centerline wheels are not too expensive considering you can order them with the bolt circle, backspace, and width.

On most all except the most extreme Zs, a 5 bolt conversion is a waste of money. Nothing wrong with 4 bolt hubs.
