Robert77 Posted December 31, 2010 Share Posted December 31, 2010 I recently obtained a 1971 240z with the L6. Drove it for two weeks then it idled erratically, backfired then wouldnt fire at all. It will still rollover.The distributor is still turning but no fire. I've replaced the points and the coil with no luck. As far as i can tell, the only engine part thats not original is there is a gm alternator. Anyone have any idea what i should try or what i should replace next? NewZed Posted December 31, 2010 Share Posted December 31, 2010 Do you have battery voltage to both sides of the coil, with the key at On? If you do and the points have a place to ground to and are set correctly then you should get spark when the engine turns over. If you don't have power at the coil then you can start back-tracking to find out why. If you do have power to the coil then you can focus on the points and everything after.
