Hello all. What did guys ever do before the internet when they got a new toy? Anyway My name is Ed and I live in the upstate NY. BUUURRR MY neighbor has been on the search for a 1983 280zx for several months. He is not very mechanically savy and has inlisted my help to look at a few cars with him. Last week we came across a 83 with an advertized 327, but after some research I believe it to have a 350 with a set of camel hump heads that may have come off a 327, but I digress. Ends up he has purchased the car and I now am researching some fixes that need to be addressed before he takes the car out this spring. Bigest problem is the right front tire ir rubbing on the fender. I attempted to search the forum here several times and found no real clear cut answer, besides change the spring. Like I siad I am a newbie to the Z-car world, especially to ones powered with small block chevys. I beleive it has stock size tires and wheels, they are not low profile, but I am not sure of their size for he has not got the car home yet. There must be a standard upgrade strut or coil spring to accomodate the increase in weight found with the v-8 conversion. Any info appreciated.

You might have a broken tension rod on the front suspension. They break sometimes if the rubber bushings are replaced with urethane. A broken rod will let your transverse link (aka control arm) and wheel move back and forth. Just a guess, but worth a check.
