Which valve or both

Read some other post and the yeah or nay thing, but didn't see with valve(s) needed clearance.

I have wooden peg in timing chain would be hard to turn over.

Thought I would just do a little grinding while it is off to make sure.

Guess I will grind for both that way I will be sure.

Mark the cam gear relative to the chain so you can get it back together correctly. Then just turn the cam with the head sitting on the block with the alignment pins holding it in position. You don't need to turn the timing chain to check this clearance.

Normally the intake valve, unless you have larger exhaust

but you should test it by rotating the cam, with the head on,

if you screw the cam bolt in, with some washers so it doesn't bottom out, (in the cam), use a socket and bar to turn the cam.

make sure the head guides are installed so the head doesn't move.
