240zip
I was looking at mesh filters for my Weber 42DCOE's. I saw the typically velocity stack filters which are mesh, I've seen socks that clamp on. Finally I came across these motorcycle air cones that come in 42mm and 48mm sizes. I've seen ITB's that use such cone filters. Has anyone tried them on a triple DCOE set-up? the mesh filters cost about $35/pair so $140 for a set of six. these cone filters run less than $10 each, so $60 a set including shipping. I guess the biggest issue is whether or not they'll fit. has anyone looked into this option?

jakeoster
Seems like a lot of fangling around for nothing. You just like the look or something?
josh817
They make foam socks that are the same concept, here are mine: Be aware that a small confined filter will restrict flow. Not necessarily rendering the air horn useless but of course restricts flow around the horn since there is a filter there. I think Devid Vizard wrote 1.5 (1.-something, might not be 1.5) times the diameter of the air horn is needed for it to breath properly. For a 42mm horn the filter would need to be at least 63mm away from the horn. Honestly though, I didn't notice a difference between no filter and filter. I'd buy one of those filters just to test fit. The ones I have, have some funky way to to clamp/seal. Has a rubber ring that goes onto the horn and the orifice in the filter is big enough to fit the horn through but too big to seal again the unflared part, so that's what the spacer is for. You can see in the picture that the carb with no filters still has the clamps on it to hold the rubber spacer ring in place. 240zip
I currently have air horns and the K&N set-up. It 'feels' restrictive. I was going to dyno with the air horns and the K&N off ... see if there's any measurable difference. I also have two sets of air horns (one's longer and bends up a tad). Again, given I'll have time on the dyno, I was going to try and measure any differences. I can't use the K&N's with the longer horns. They won't fit.
