Guest Anonymous
Now some of you may know that my car isnt in such good shape anymore because i got rear-ended. If ur curious then read up on it in the non tech section. This lead me to looking at ad's for another car and i came accross a 1974 260Z with a 327 for only $1500. Now I'm assuming that something is wrong with it if the price isnt a typo but I'll check it out anyway just to see what condition its in. Now if it is in good shape but just some mechanical screw ups or something then It's possible to buy and and fix whats wrong with it with a smaller investment than what it takes to do a whole project. What do you guys think? What sort of things should i deffinately say "No I wont even consider buying it" to when looking at it such as "If so and so and so is wrong then deffinatly walk away". It's not like I'll go out tomarow and get it, I'm just looking at my lack of project car problem at a different angle .
Mikelly
If the body is in good shape, I would grab it. Look for rust in the bad areas, and if the car is reasonably clean, regardless of the conversion, I'd buy it as long as it isn't butchered. If it is a hooker or Scarab conversion, don't sweat over it as converting the conversion to the JTR is cheap ($350) and can be done much quicker when a V8 has already been installed in a car. RPMS
$1,500 is a good price, even for a beater IF it buys the parts you need to fix your car. If the engine smokes, the tranny slips, the interior is shot, and there's been bad bodywork done on it in the past, I'd say to pass on it. What you need is a good body to transplant your drivetrain into, and a fifteen hundred dollar V8-Z isn't likely to have a good body. But even if the body is bad, it could still be put in the "good deal" column if the interior is nice and it has lots of mechanical bits on it that you'd like. You could buy the car, harvest what you want off it, and either rebuild and sell it, or part out what's left to finance the deal. On the other hand, my last 280Z was 1,300 bucks, and the ONLY things wrong with it were a bad brake booster and old tires. It came with wide wheels, sport suspension, Flofit seats, a perfect body and a strong engine. Sometimes you just get lucky. Good luck, and let us know how it turns out!
