#1136216 Fastest LS Datsun 1/4 mile

Posted by SUNNY Z on 27 February 2015 - 07:31 AM

I hear this all the time, but honestly my car was running 10s on motor with the 6 speed on a pretty unimpressive engine.

Also if it was that easy to "just put a glide in it and run 8s" then I wouldn't be one of the only ls Zs running 8s.

Sorry man I can't tell you how tired I get of people telling me "if I just did x I would run 8s no problem." Try actually doing it, it's not that easy.

My car made 440whp all motor and ran in the 10's with a 6 speed as well....at 3100+#, and IRS.

Potato Tomato

Running 8's isn't easy, you're right. I also want to take this chance to say that I think you have built one bad ride. However, being the fastest at the track isn't my goal - that should be obvious.  If I'd built a car to go straight, it would have a solid axle and an automatic. Until then, I'll be rowing gears, impressing highschool kids, and enjoying the shit out of my car.

Pulling together a plan right now.  Looks like I'll be installing the 5.5 inch Tilton clutch kit with bellhousing and ministrarter.  I'll also be installing the drysump kit along with the LS1. I'm going to drop the shortblock off on Monday of next week to have the work started.

I believe I'm also going to install the Trickflow heads/cam package that was released last year.  Still doing a little research but that's where I'm leaning right now.

Mike

Trick flow makes some great heads, but I'd seriously consider a custom grind for your application.

#1059998 Building a Hitch and Trailer for my 280

Posted by SUNNY Z on 03 June 2013 - 05:43 AM

Since a mod ninja edited my title. It USED TO READ:

If your car doesn't have a hitch, it's a .................................Race car.

Thought I'd start my own thread about this "hitch" subject.  As some of you know, I'm building a hitch for my car, and a datsun pickup bed trailer to pull behind it.

This is yesterday, after I spent the last week finishing the walls, re-wiring the ceiling, and putting up lights

I bought a flip-down license plate cover, so none of this will ever be seen unless I'm hooked up to a trailer.

These aren't exactly in the correct order, but it makes more sense this way.

Here is the hitch, as it sits in the hatch. The cross brace is 2" Square tubing, 3/16" wall. The angle iron on the ends is 2" x 2" x 1/4". The hitch is a cheapo universal receiver from Harbor Freight.

I'm going to be adding more material to this, so I have at least 3 bolts per side holding it through the frame.

After I had it where I wanted it, I measured (like 6 times haha) and got everything where I wanted it.  Then I made a cut from the inside, and drew the box on the outside.

Here it is, all tacked up and ready to weld.

That's all i got done in the 3 hours i worked on it last night. Hope to get it welded today, and install tonight!

PS, i'll be running like a 10" drop hitch to make it the right height.

#1053607 LS1 or LS2 motor into 240z - Budget wise.

Posted by SUNNY Z on 29 April 2013 - 04:01 AM

5.3 and 6.0 dont ware out like the ls1s do because no one beats on them. mine has 160k miles on it and the bearings look brand new. would be another option if you dont mind losing a little power.

Obviously you've never driven a company vehicle.

#1016755 what is this cable for and do I need it for my ls swap?

Posted by SUNNY Z on 29 August 2012 - 10:41 AM

Thats the speedo cable - best I can tell.

No, you won't need it. Because the t56 has an electronic speed sensor, or if you did put a different tail shaft on it, it uses a different gear, I'm almost 100% certain.

#1015849 Rear end noise

I bet you dollars to donuts its just whiny. Mine does this too. whisper quiet under load, then when you take the load off it, it whines.

the solution: KEEP YOUR FOOT IN IT

#981414 78 280Z LS3 Project

I just spoke with John Harrison at the fab shop and he said he can make another tank just like mine for around $400 as long as you are not using the factory fuel sending unit. It cost me more since I wanted to use the factory sending unit therefore they had to cut the top section of my original tank where the sending unit mounts to and integrate it to this tank. He can do that if you wish you would just have to send him that section of your original tank.

I'm picking up the car this weekend to take it to the body/restoration shop and I will remove the fuel tank before I drop the car off at the body shop. I need to remove the sending unit and send it in to be rebuilt. I can take pictures of the tank out of the car and post it if you would like.

that would be sweet. thanks

Also, can you take some pictures standing a ways back from the car so i can see how well the tank tucks? I'm assuming that filler is connected to the stock location? What pump / filter setup is that?

One more thing - can you ask them what the cost would be with a standard 0-90 ohm sending unit?

I'm really liking this design... :)
