  1. 12.685 @ 107.9mph from a 229hp 305? Buddy, that's pretty stinkin' fast! I guess it just goes to show how pointless it is to sit down and insist that you MUST have 400 hp in your very first hybrid. I've fallen into that trap myself, and have pretty much convinced myself that my car won't ever be "fast enough" until I've got at least 300hp under the hood. I'm beginning to see what HP can do in a lightweight car... Well done!
  2. Click on the "edit" button. When the edit screen comes up, go to the bottom of the check boxes (underneath the space where you type your message, and just above the "Preview" and "Submit" buttons) and check the "Delete this post" box. Then hit "submit" and your post is gone. Then re-submit it to the proper forum, and you're all done!
  3. No, I'm a fag. His parents are idiots. No self-respecting gay person would ever sully themselves like that.
  4. I've seen most of the video (I couldn't make it through the whole thing) and it appears to me the boy was already WELL on his way to being an unpopular weenie to begin with. Anyone who borrows school equipment to act like a moronic butthead, then forgets to erase the tape deserves what they get! I consider what the other four boys did to be a natural consequence of "jedi knight"'s lack of intelligence and forethought. Sorry, but as an former (and possibly current) unpopular weenie myself, I can't see that anyone did anything to him worth a quarter mil. You do something stupid, you pay for it. End of lesson.
  5. Any hydraulic shop worth their salt should be able to make a set of these up for about a hundred bucks. The price for factory parts is just obscene!
  6. Just a note for the archives... My hood cable had snapped through all but three wires of the cable, so closing the hood was absolutely out of the question. I'd hate to think what a pain in the butt it would be to get the hood open without unlatching it! None of my Z connections could get me one quickly, so I bopped on down to the junkyard and looked around for a while. The cable from a first generation RX-7 fits just fine. The handle is a little larger so it's more comfortable to pull, but it's not so big it looks out of place. Thought this might be helpful to someone.
  7. I've been looking all over, but I can't seem to find it. A year or so ago, someone posted a writeup of an action scene between two ricers involved in a stoplight race. Both cars were amazingly slow, but they both thought they were going really, really fast. Does anyone know what I'm talking about, and where I can get a copy of that? Thanks,
  8. Ummmm... The picture my computer brings up is an e39 chassis M5. $70,000, and it already has a V8. I'm sure this isn't the car y'all are talking about...
  9. Whoa, cool! It'm learning how to dive soon, and that would be an excellent thing to add to my lifetime "Must-See" list. I wonder how many days it takes to come off the adrenalin high?
  10. Yeah, that would be one problem, but I don't think it would be a big deal to take the little metal "hat" out of the headlight, the one that keeps your lights from blinding oncoming drivers, and expose the entire bulb. It wouldn't be good for anything but a driving light, but it might work...
  11. I know this sounds funky, but hear me out. A late model (1999-2003) Mustang got into a wreck near my house, and an almost perfect headlight assembly was "extracted" from the car. A couple of the mounting posts were broken off and I knew it wouldn't be useable for its intended purpose, so I collected it. Don't ask me why, I just did. I got to looking at it, and I got creative. Turning it upside down, it looks like it would fit PERFECTLY under the bumper of the Z, replacing the stock 240/260 turn signal lamp. Of course the Mustang unit wouldn't work properly as a headlight anymore, but I'll bet it could be turned into a driving light with very little work. The curvature looks like it's almost an exact fit, and the corner marker lamps would still perform their intended function. It's beyond my abilities, but I'll bet someone with fabrication and fiberglassing skills could work magic with them, perhaps integrating them into an airdam. What do y'all think? Does anyone with Photoshopping skillz want to take a crack at mocking this up?
  12. I got the Camaro radiator put in, and it seems to have solved the heat issues as far as I can tell. But when I was about to take the car out on its first extended run, I noticed that the hood wasn't wanting to shut properly. I took the latch apart, and discovered that all but TWO WIRES on the cable had snapped! So I can't shut my hood and drive it until I get that issue resolved. I'm getting itchy!!!!! I haven't driven the darned thing for months!
  13. I don't think it looks bad. It'd look better in black, and I'm not fond of the vertical indicator light (sort of makes the air dam look chunky and fat). In fact, I was kinda hoping the new 350Z would look something like that...
  14. Oh my god, that is SO not funny! That poor cyclist might have been hurt! I think I saw blood spurting from his shattered body. What if someone ran over him while he was lying there? Someone should get that cruel commercial pulled from the internet before someone gets hurt. :cry2: :cry2: Have a nice day, and remember, VOTE DEMOCRAT!
  15. Well, you're weird, but we still love you. For a swap, there are a couple of factors that make the 260 an excellent choice. First off, do you know what makes an onion different from a 260Z? People cry when you cut up an onion. Being the least desireable Z (due mostly to the square-top carbs than anything else, I think) nobody cares when you cut one up. But they're still lighter than the 280, so you get a bit of performance increase there. Not much, but a little. Secondly, the electrical systems were a bit more sophisticated than the 240. A shunted ammeter keeps dashboard fires from happening, and the fuseboxes don't overheat AS readily. Still not perfect, but better than they were. THey have a bit less wiring to rip out than a 280. If I were to do it all over again, I might choose a 280 instead of a 260, though. Stronger bodies and better insulation make for a more liveable car for many folks. I'd give up a tiny bit of performance for a tiny bit more comfort.
  16. Wow! That could have really ruined y'all's evening. At least the stub axles are fairly easy to replace. Were they the stock ones?
  17. It's good until NEXT Saturday, according to the ad! I'm all pissed off now. I just rented a stupid hoist for $40. If I'd known I could have gotten one PERMANENTLY for three times that, I'd have bought one. My timing sucks.
  18. No way! Spill the beans, Graeme! What you got there?
  19. Unless I'm mistaken, the fans take constant 12v power, and vary resistance to the ground. It's the same thing with the instrument light dimming system. Please correct me if I'm wrong...
  20. What, do you think that abortion actually MOVES? You have to appreciate the.... uh... well, on second thought, no you don't.
  21. At 4:53 in the bloody morning?!? Are you out of your mind??? I'm still trying to unplug my various bodily orifices at that time of the morning, and you want to chat??? You might try doing something the rest of us do from time to time - SLEEP! Tongue in cheek, of course. Have a pleasant and relaxing day!
  22. Actually, the "or sue" option was something I threw in at the last instant to get a few more folks to read the post. Yeah, it's bait-and-switch in the finest tradition. But your responses did get me to think about mediation. To me the repair should be a lifelong one, but some shop owners see differently. Perhaps with mediation, something could be done along the lines of "we remove the engine ourselves, and the body shop fixes the broken metal at no cost", that sort of thing. Anyone else have any good ideas?
  23. Heya, folks! I need some sage advice, gut reactions, and learned wisdom. Everyone has something to offer, so please don't feel like your advice wouldn't be valuable just because you don't own a 300Z. One of my friends has a normally aspirated 1991 300Z 2+2 that he is looking to sell, and wants to know what it's worth. It's automatic, white in color, and has a leather interior. T-tops, Bose, working A/C. The car's in fair shape, with good paint and a smooth running engine. It has 171,000 miles, and it has a few apparent problems: There is a substantial oil leak, probably from the cam covers. The driver's seat has a tear in the bolster next to the door, and one of the rear speaker covers has a dime-sized tear in the fabric covering. Otherwise, the interior looks quite serviceable. The body has two small creases in the right rear fender about 12" long. Now for the kicker. The car was in an accident about six years ago, and the front clip in front of the shock towers was replaced by Grubbs Nissan (or their agent). The metal is now ripping loose where the front of the shock tower meets the fender, and you can see through to the road via three 2" tears in the metal. He wants to sell it instead of fixing it. Does anyone want to give me a ballpark on what he should expect to get for it? He loved the car when he felt safe in it, and my personal thought is to get everything pushed back into position, welded and braced from inside the wheelwell (to avoid removing the engine again), and to enjoy the car some more. What do y'all think? Sell or fix? Too late to sue the dealer for what was apparently a shoddy repair? Thanks, Scott Ferguson 1974 260-Z
