  1. I do corner working there most of the time. I think I remember seeing you're blue Z if it was within the past two years. There is a silver 240Z that sounds really nice too. Unfortunately for him he went off down at turn 8 I think it is, running right along 377. It was raining down on that end of the track and he slid off the track, across the pond, almost made it to dry land. He was able to hook up the tow rope in the knee high water, they pulled him out, he drove back to pits. If you ever spot a blue Datsun pickup out there thats me.

probably wasnt my Z.   mine hasnt seen a track in about 3-4 years  (my god has it been that long?)

    More Z video's please.

  2. My cousin is a member at Motorsport Ranch.  He's had a silver WRx station wagon, a spec miata and a Radical out there.  His name is Jake Turrell and last we talked he was working on a Caterham.  His brother in law is Keith Verges, who I think spends a lot of time on that track in a variety of vehicles.  We wore out a pair of his tires one day about 10 years ago in the WRx.  LOVE that place! It is the safest track I've ever seen.  I've been both on the track and OFF the track, yet his car is no worse for the experience; the runoff areas are so nice.  Perhaps some day I can make the trip to join you for a day of driving?

Small world.  I met Keith on a few occasions while working at Ruf (now RAC Performance) here in Dallas.    You are correct about the runoff at Motorsports Ranch.  I have an intact front spoiler to prove it.  Eagles Canyon is actually closer to me now, but i'm always down for a day of driving.

Since this is a video thread, here is my good friend Mark Plummer (GrandAm Driver) using my camera in a 996 Cup Car at Motorsport ranch.

  3. Dreco, your Z sounds fantastic! and looks like you were doing some work on the road course!.. great vid!  Stony as always, it is great to see your Z again.. I hope you get back up and racing soon with some more vids.

thanks!  that was the old 3.0L stroker motor built by Rebello Racing.  Had header with 3" exhaust w/bored SU's.   Friends say it was one of the best sounding cars they've ever heard.  The video was from Motorsport Ranch in Cresson TX.   The Z is currently under construction getting an LS6/T56 swap.

  4. Thanks for the replies.  This car will see a good amount of track duty.  I've not dyno'd my engine yet, but it is a cam'd LS6.  suspension is poly bushings(camber adjustable) tokico springs and struts (not adjustable).  upgraded tension rods, shortend steering knuckles.  I will be going coil over however.  1 inch sway bar front along with rear sway bar.  3.9 R200 LSD.  I tracked my car quite a bit running 15/ 225's hoosiers all around and a 3.0L stroker motor.  Car still had quite a bit of understeer.   for the record, i like GO more than SHOW.  I went ahead and orderd 9.5's all corners.  Jumping in with both feet!!!

  5. Looks like i'm getting a set of the Rota RB's for my 240Z.   What set up would be the best?  17X9.5 all around? or 17X9 up front.  Can anyone tell me the handling characteristics from these setups?   I have the fender flares installed, but i wanted to see if there were any handling benefits from running the 275's on all corners.

  6. Two things I'd take a look at while you're looking into the valve train are the springs (failures on the OEMs are fairly common) and the rockers. If you have stock rockers, I'd recommend the CompCams trunion replacement, which is a cheap and simple upgrade to the PM rockers that came stock, which are apparently a decent rocker, when you upgrade them.

    Mike

here is what i found when i took the valve cover off. From what i've read these are not the stock springs.

  7. I would say a lot of RPM capability in a 5.7L, 6500 to 7000. Reasonable idle. That's my guess. It should make good numbers with a flat wide power band if the motor has the supporting parts.

thanks. I ran those numbers on a virtual dyno and thats about what it showed (however accurate those programs are). Just wanted to make sure this wasnt a build for supercharger set up or something. I dont plan on getting that crazy with it.
  8. I'm finally getting back to my project. I purchased the LS6 awhile back. I was told that it did not have a stock cam in it. I was told that it measured 218/232 .620 118lsa? Can anyone tell me what to expect from a cam with a grind like this? I took off the valve covers and noticed that it had dual valve springs with titanium retainers so I assume that the cam is in fact "not stock" Can someone enlighten me? thanks in advance.

  9. it's been said that if you want to be succesfull at something, hang out with people who have already been succesful at it. Anyone with completed or current LSx projects in the Dallas area? I'd like to opportunity to meet some like minded people in the area, and see what the end result looks like in person.
