  1. If any of you need some space to document your projects I will give you 100Mb of disc space and 1gig/month bandwidth for free. No ads, no crap, etc. This includes pop3 email, mysql database, front page extensions, blah blah blah. Also fantastico installer which includes many scripts for forums, shopping carts, blogs, galleries etc. ALL I ASK is that you put up at least one page that documents in detail something you have done (irs swap, ecu swap, speaker placement, I don't care just something). If you don't understand something ask and I will try to help but I am by no means a webmaster. This is hosting (reseller) that used to be allotted to my forums which I 86'd a year ago. Obviously I only have so much space/ bandwidth but wouldn't mind adding more and giving it away provided something useful came of it. This would also mean you would have a short time to get something up because otherwise you would be not using space someone else could actually be using. If you need more space/ bandwidth I'm sure something reasonable could be worked out. Videos.....if you wish to host vids the bandwidth allotted may not be enough but I will gladly host them. This is actually one of the reasons I offered this. TurboMeister (sp?) said he would have to take one down to put another up (I can understand the admins limiting this). I know, I know you can go to cardomain.com but I'm trying to give a little more flexibility. Of course this would require that you have a domain name which I suggest getting from Namecheap.com. $8.88. Contact me to get the nameserver to point to and setup an account if you are interested. Since you have read all this you might as well read my one complaint. Stop saying "SEARCH". Facts and opinions change and a thread that might have been relevant 6 months ago may not be now. To make things worse I do search. Then I find a thread that screams "there is what you need to know". I open it and it says "search and you will find tons of info". Well I'm not finding "tons of info" I'm finding a ton of people saying "search".
  2. Thanks for adding to my cost. I just pulled my head today and had no idea I should replace them. Ignorance is bliss and cheaper at least initially. Zcarcreations.com's price list doesn't seem to work and I don't see a stud set listed seperately so I guess I may as well get their engine set from Courtesy unless anyone has had bad experiences with these bolt sets. Anyone?
  3. Yep. Antivir has a good detection rate for a free program but has (had) an annoying nag screen. It won't however stop most adware/spyware/hijacks. The best defense against these is adaware, spybot, MS antispyware beta and of course using something other than IE. Also since it was the cause of the problem not using Kazza. It is flooded with garbage. I don't want to advocate piracy but you are much better off using bittorrent for your vids and music. Even better for music is allofmp3.com the current legal loophole in downloading music. It is a Russian site that charges $.02 per megabyte for music downloads and allows for many formats and quality settings. They also accept paypal.
  4. Pop N Wood, glad you got rid of your problem however both Adaware SE and Spybot S&D do not come bundled with any type of malware. To say "beware of the free stuff" is really misleading. There are far more pay programs advertising removal that just add junk to your PC. Adaware and Spybot are time tested reliable solutions. As for Microsoft AS Beta it is probably the best single solution out although none are perfect by themselves. It was previously Giant AS before being sucked up by MoneySoft and had the highest detection rate among the malware detectors. What will happen now that MS has it is anybody's guess. I saw a couple people suggest different AV software. This is always good advice but usually does nothing to prevent spyware/ adware/ malware. They are definately getting better but up until not too long ago it was a "that stuff isn't our problem" type of thing. It is good to have at least one anti-malware program with real time protection in addittion to your AV/ firewall software. Norton is the worst for letting in crap (malware ..not virii) When it comes to AV software I suggest getting the most robust software your PC can handle. If you have an old system I suggest NOD32. Probably the best AV software out with all things considered and kind to low resource systems. If resources are not a problem then go with the highest detection rates. Norton, Mcafee, Kapersky. Some of the other AV solutions suggested in this thread are marginal at best with there only redeeming factor being that they are free. Having said all that about AV solutions back on topic.... If you are running anything other than XP/ SP2 the best advice is simply not to use Internet Explorer or if you do completely disable ActiveX. Again it is best to use a more secure browser like Firefox or Opera. Oh and stop surfing pr0n. Again an AV program would not have stopped (depending on the infection means) about;blank or its variants. So get yourself one of the malware detection programs in this post. If you get Hijacked the best solution is to run "hijack this" and post the log on a forum where people are familiar with reading them (see below). If you plan on diagnosing the problem yourself make sure you know what you are looking at. A tutorial/ BHO library/ startup list/ etc. can be found here: http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/htlogtutorial.html You can also email me the log (anybody) and I will review it for you. fredcordell@gmail.com. Places to get your log reviewed: http://forums.spywareinfo.com/index.php?b=1 http://forums.anandtech.com http://dslreports.com If you happen to be a Comcast Cable customer there are two extremely knowledgable and helpful people on their help forums. JohnD and CajunTek (tell them I said hi, I'm no longer a CC customer). Info on AV programs including detection rate, resources used, and scan times: http://www.schadentech.com/Reviews/Antivirus/antivirus_roundup.htm http://www.virusbtn.com/ More on malware/ spyware removal: http://www.schadentech.com/Malware/removal.htm Also Kazza is not the source of A;B. It is an easy way to get it though (not the program itself).
  5. Normally I am the first to yell "SEARCH" on other forums including my own. However this is slightly out of my comfort zone (electronics, mechanical, car computer(MP3, DVD Navigation. etc)). I frequently browse these forums (long time Z fan) and I am awestruck by the amount of knowledge and craftsmanship presented here and at the same time disappointed by the lack of a FAQs which could lay to rest many n00b questions. OK enough bitchin'.... on to the meat of the problem (cause I really do hate vegetables). Within the next 24-48 hours the current plan is to buy a '78Z. I have seen a few arguements against buying a later model Z but the arguements are lacking consensus. Is there any truly viable reason against purchasing this car (78Z)? It is destined to be a V8 conversion (I have the Edelbrock crate engine sitting here although it was meant to go elsewehere). I lack the artistic vision that many of you seem to have and display confidently so a few questions on that aspect are in order: 1: Seats: The interior is shot. Are there any experience based seat recommendations? MSA Corbeau offerings? Looking like TRS..gray right now. 2. Fender flares. I like the look but which ones are easily blended? Also how wide of a tire/rim setup can be used without going to a 5 lug setup/ different rear/ coilovers and still look OK with flares? Recommendations? 3. Air dam/ ground effects. I have seen many different setups that look great. Is there a "database" which shows the different dams (MSA, etc.) ? Forum member pics without searching through profiles/ galleries? 4. Carpet: Suggestions on vendors? Molded/ piece? 5. Dash: Of course it has cracks. Is a dash cap the best option or are there reasonably priced dash restoration vendors? OK before the "wrong forum" gods chime in like I said this will be a V8 conversion and I have a few questions on that aspect: 1. The polished version of this engine (bought from a friend) is sitting in my storage shed . Should I anticipate any hood clearance problems.? (sh!t...linky no worky... Performer 9.0:1../320hp) Again although I am a Z fan I am not really familiar with the dimensions of the car when it comes to a V8 conversion (Just ordered the JTR manual). 2. I am a fan of the "KISS" philosophy (12 volts and fuel) but are there any real arguements other than weight to go with an LS1? I am no stranger to fabrication so I doubt fitting one would be a problem but I currently don't see any real advantages other than weight and EFI which really don't concern me. 3. Bracing: Are there any structual enhancements I should expect to make to accomadate the heavier engine and 320hp? 4. Coilovers for street use? Yay or nay? 5. Lastly this is an Aotomatic Z. Given my current engine choice what would be the best tranny choice and what mods should I expect whether that choice be an auto or manual? Thanks again for your time, FT
