  2. No experience with them and you have likely run across these searching but: http://www.crank-scrapers.com/prod01.html Thread on said scrapers: http://www.zcar.com/forums/read/4/1624793/page=1

  4. On my 76 it is under the bracket the fusible links are attatched to between the battery and the shock tower.....
  5. Yeah......they have been around a while. A friend of mine ordered a few part through them and they turned out nice. You really don't need to have much cad knowledge to use the software. It warns you if you screw up or the design is incompatible with machines/ materials. Took me about 10 minutes to design door pulls and a shifter knob and I'm definately not a CAD expert: Door pulls (Al) would be $210 for a single set. $272 for ten sets. Shifter (Al) would be $121 for 1 ..........$225 for 20....... $371 for 50 Like any other machining it is usually only worthwhile if you can make and sell a run.......
  6. I replace them each time I pull the head.
  7. Don't have any pics but: http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/efisystem/280zfuelinjectionbook.pdf http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/explodedviews/280z/index.html http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/airleaks/index.html http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/efisystem/hose/index.html
  8. Yeah, I have both and it is still guess work on a few things.
  9. I recently bought a second '76 (CA) 280z with big dreams however it had been stored a while after a supposed rebuild . Well I cranked it today and it ran like sh!T. Not so much noticable at idle until the smoke. Tracking the smoke down I could see it coming out of the pre-muffler and as I came back up I noticed the hose between the PCV valve and the block melting . I shut it off assuming this was a timing problem and the hose (block/pcv) was obviously on fire from the inside. Right now I'm assuming timing but is there anything else I should be looking at? Edit: What is this hose called and where can I get it?
  10. Can I use the Xb/Short bus pic elsewhere? I happen to know (cyber) a retarded Xb owner.
  11. Heavy Z, "Essentialy" is a severe oversimplification. I don't think I need to tell you that. As to the rest of course we want to bring spending down so repayment of the bonds is not an issue. It would be nice if we didn't have to use all of the money in the General fund. I'm actually kind of glad we do though because otherwise we would just be using not only the money owed to SS but whatever was left if there was a general fund surplus to support a dead program. Again all of this money is being counted as if it were there. That means the "omg they are raiding SS" mentality is moot. The current system will begin to fail at the projected dates even with all the money. Actually the whole arguement either way is moot. No matter which way it goes you and I will pay for it.
  12. A lot gets lost in semantics and spin. This money being spent is money that was invested into Special Treasury Bonds. It is no different in principle than you depositing money into your savings accont. The bank doesn't just let it sit there and pay you intrest for allowing them the privelege of your money taking up space in their vault. They spend it. In general this leads to them earning over and above what they are paying you for intrest. The surplus was put into Special Treasury Bonds in order to prolong the life of a failing SS system. This allows the money to gain intrest and prolong the system further. As I have said twice already all estimates on the length of time SS secutity solvent are based on all of the surplus plus intrest being paid back. These people act as if all the money that is outstanding were to be payed back everything would be fine. This money is already being counted. Maybe you should read this. (simplest explanation I can find). Now if you want to argue over deficits or comingling of funds and how it applies to this situation that would be fine. However what you seem to believe about SS is misguided.
  13. No you can't replace it. Epoxy/glue should do the trick though.
  14. Without arguing points in other post in this thread I'll just give my .02: 1. The Government is not using/ stealing SS security money anymore than the bank steals the money in your savings account. The "surplus" is put into special Treasury Bonds. It isn't in a box somewhere. It is now the Governments money to spend as it sees fit until the bonds are called in. The Government has yet to default. 2. It is not "welfare for the rich". As with anything else the "rich" carry most of the load. If you were to cut out their ability to receive benefits you should also cut the requirement to pay in (it is capped) or otherwise it really is welfare. 3. Social Security has been working fine for blah blah blah and will continue to do so. Yeah that was true with the demographics of the '30s. Some people have already stated that there are far fewer workers to be paying in than receiving benefits, the life expectancy at the introduction of SS was actually less than the age to receive benefits. The math doesn't lie. SS is a problem. 4. SS is fine and we'll still be able to pay 70% benefits in the future. What a crock. Who that is going to hurt the worst...THE FRIGGIN PEOPLE THAT DEPEND ON SS. 5. Oh nnnnooooeeeess Private accounts will be be taking away from the people who are close to retirement. BS . To my knowledge noone has suggested anything that would lessen the benefits at any end of the spectrum. It will simply incur cost. The same arguement was had at the induction of SS. I for one am for private accounts if properly structured.
  15. jmortensen, yes the pivot nut was turned down an the cam was turned so that the lobe was up on each rocker arm being removed. This of course still requires that the spring be compressed to get it completely off the pivot. That was the problem. My spring compressors won't fit and the screw driver just kept slipping. I ended up taking a 14mm wrench wedged between the locknut and the arm and popping them off from the back using the arm itself to compress the spring. Obviously this won't cut it in reverse.Maybe it will be easier on the clean oil free head with a pry bar. We'll see.
  16. Lol, for some reason this reminded me of this guy: http://www.man1bank0.com/home.cfm?page=2
  17. 1. What is the best way to clean the build-up off the pistons while still in the block? Problem is similar to 280zedx's seen here: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v186/280zedx/piston6.jpg Someone mentioned sanding. Is this the best way? What is going to cause the least scarring to the pistons? 2. Rocker arms. I took my head off today and getting the rocker arms off was a PITA No way to really get a compressor on the springs and the suggested "screwdriver between the cam and spring" wasn't very effective. Now I'm worried about putting them back on and wondering if there is some ancient Z master technique to doing so. Seems easy enough. Just push it under the cam lobe and pop it on the pivot but I thought removing them would be simple too but couldn't compress the springs. Well it was simple but I'm just hoping I didn't bend them doing it the easy way. <----n00b
  18. "If you can't convince them, confuse them."
  19. Basically I'm offering a small website for free. People still use stand alone DVDs? I thought everyone switched to HTPCs where all your games/ music/ DVDs were at the touch of a remote which would make you really behind the times. Guess you got behind on things working on that sweet Z.Don't sweat the 5 year old PC but if you ever want to build your own shoot me an email. Surely anyone who can build a Z like that can put together 10 components.
  20. wow.....just wow reminds me of a thread I saw earlier: http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.aspx?catid=38&threadid=1542332&enterthread=y wtf mate?
