  1. I want to flush my fuel injection system in the 1978 GTO 250 project. The fuel tank (was clean upon removal) is out and what I have in mind is to use the Z electric fuel pump and flush a container of solvent thru the system. I also need a safe solvent to pre soak about 18 injectors in... The 78 280 Z set for two years and now wants to lay down and sputter. After 15 years, the solvent in my parts washer needs replacing. What would be a cheap solvent for the parts washer and to pre soak injectors and flush the fuel system.. any recomendations. What is "Sea Foam" ? http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/larryjohnson97438/album?.dir=8223&.src=ph&store=&prodid=&.done=http%3a//pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/larryjohnson97438/my_photos

  2. Ernie ..here is my thread on the 250 GTO project...The body skin is presently trial fitted on and came out fairly straight but the inner fiberglass fenders were an abortion..I have fiberglass materials to fine tune the fit (started those proceedures today) and will have pictures of that shortly.http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=102048

  3. Ernie... I am adjusting....sometimes it seems dismal to get past the lost years but my dog, Sadie, will still eat my cooking.... so what is there to complain about with that type of success with a well fed dog, a home, good looking wife and rust free Datsuns to play with. I trust life has been treating you good.

  4. Kevin... thanks for the compliment about my posts as stick quality... You may not realize that I used to post as Tomahawk Z and was off these boards for two years.http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/larryjohnson97438/album?.dir=/392a One tranny to consider that is even lowered gear in fierst and secong than the early 77-78 z is the 1977-80 620 pick-up five speed transmission that came with the L 20 B 4 cylinder engine...It is actually the same tranny but lower geared and bolts right up.. I had a 77 Z with a bad 5 speed and replaced it with 4 speed (same tranny case and length) from a 620 pick-up. The z motor was weak and the struts were worn but that Z thought it was a jack rabbit in first and second gear peeling rubber in second gear with the front end reaching for the sky and the rear sqautting to feel the asphalt. The front end with the worn strut cartridges lifted so high you could not see down the road. I have had 620 Pick-ups for years and they were always about the lowest geared of the imports trucks of their time. Datsun rated them at one ton. You may get on a 620 website and find out more about the 5 speed gearing http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/larryjohnson97438/album?.dir=8223&.src=ph&store=&prodid=&.done=http%3a//pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/larryjohnson97438/my_photos

  5. John C........ interesting point on stroke and valve given The MR 2 is rear/mid engine and the Golf/Jetta is front engine. In this backwater of Lane County , I have never had the opportunity to compare the lower priced replacement strut cartridges of Jetta/Golf-----MR2. The scrawny GTI strut cartridge is out for a 280 and the Golf/Jetta KYB GR2 is quite beefy. Without comparing the MR 2 to to the Golf/Jetta...my money would be on the Golf/Jetta...Of course when you step in the realm of Koni and Bilstein performance cartridges the game changes. Most likely the best bet for a range of 160 to 225 pound coilover spring performance street car would be adjustable Tokico Illuminas at KYB GR 2 prices

  6. Jon... bulges..lines...bubbles...creases.. folds..I will pay attention to all if I can get away with it.... Ol Ocbaar parked in front of a women's restroom at a music festival for a couple hours one summer. I stayed in the car for lack of interest. Most interesting collection of all the above and more. It was the lesbian in the undersize (spray painted) lycra pants with parts just begging to be free, who was the most memorable. It was incredible, I was wishing "bend over", "bend over" and the thought no more than entered my mine when she bent over almost on cue. There are some things a fellow should not see at three in the afternoon

  7. crank. The legislature just adjourned requiring medical prescriptions for cold remedies such as Sudafed which contains Efedrine to make meth. At the place I lived for two years... there were cooks who could make meth ingredients from scratch and not have to rely on products containing efedrine. Just about any experienced tweeker can take a sack of Sudafed and make meth.If they cannot obtain the cold remedies for a fast batch...then other more sophisticated methods will be employed......Things people shoould not know and bad luck to hear.

  8. Nephew came and spent a few days with me. The first night about 2:00 AM the wife woke me up and asked, "What's he doing outside" ? I calmed her. "Don't worry, he is just raking gravel". After a few days without sleeping he left after wearing out every rake on the place ! He was a little upset because I would not let him rig running lights onto the push lawn mower. He had to use a flash light taped to his head for the lawn mowing.

  9. Jon...I did that with 280 z front cartridge to rear 280 Z strut tube and a 1 3/4" spacer on the Tomahawk project rear suspension. http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/larryjohnson97438/album?.dir=/392a Tokico Illumina are listed for 240 Z front #BZ 3015 and rear #BZ 3016...... 280 Z front #BZ3012 and rear # BZ 3013 indicating there is some difference (?) in the front struts.. maybe strut tube diameter with 208 Z strut cartridges being thicker in diameter since we know that the strut tube diameters are larger on the 280 Z. I have never owned a 240 Z with all mine being 280 Z's. What I am trying to do is "get a way" using a 240 Z front strut cartridge into a two inch sectioned rear 280 Zstrut tube (which will slightly expand my budget shoe string options) for a example: a number of used or never used performance 240 front strut cartridges are avaiable while hardly any 280 Z front strut cartridges are avaible for re-sale.

  10. Are all 240-280 Z front strut cartridges the same and interchangeable with all the 240-280 front strut tubes the same height ? .(KYB Gr2 # 361002 fits all 240-280 front strut tubes) ...............It appears that the strut tube diameters are 2.04 (?) inches for the 240 and early 260 while the outside diameter of the late 260 and 280 Z is 2.166 inches requiring that all standard 2 inch adjustable coil over sleeves have to be bored out slightly to fit the outside diameter of the 280 strut. see 2.170 coilover sleeve tube web site http://www.a1racing.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1734 ... .....It appears 240 and 280 Z rear strut cartridges are not interchangeable because the 240 rear strut tube is shorter in height....... 1985 thru early 1992 VW Golf and Jetta front strut cartridges KYB Gr2 # 364014 fit a 2 inch sectioned 280 Z front strut tube perfectly.

  11. I have been up and down the Tiller Pass between Days Creek and Trail many times.... yeah i would like...front and rear sway bar, brake booster and master cylinder ...but a lot of work for you.... I have relatives around Trail... I have a nephew who could come and get the car but he is not too reliable....kind of why you need a prescription for Sudafed..if you know what I mean. Check your money saver ad papers and see if the wrecking yards are picking up abandoned vehicles in your area. They offer 15.00 vouchers up here per vehicle. You could drag it home and high grade the parts.....Check eBay ..you will not believe what they are getting for parts.

  12. No need to drain oil......remove oil pump and distribitor..... set crank to TDC The distribitor mount has two bolt holes on the timing chain cover....using the bolt holes as a guide, the spade shaped end of the distribitor/oilpump shaft should read 11:25 (time) when placed inside the timing chain cover.Insert the shaft into the oil pump and then into the timing chain cover from the bottom of oil pump side where it will align itself thru a guide hole in the middle of the timing chain cover and engage the teeth of the gear on the crank shaft. Use one bolt to secure the oil pump. Use small needle nose vice grips to hold the top of the shaft in place on the distribitor end.. Remove the oil pump....Use the needle nose vice grips to position the spade end of shaft to 11:25 or the spade pointing slightly to the left of the top distribitor mounting bolt hole and the bottom part of the spade pointing slightly to the right of the bottom mounting hole. For an example this percentage sign " % " would indicate a time of 1:35 of the spade tip in relation to the bolt holes... With the spade tip of the shaft locked in place at 11:25 by the needle nose vice grips..replace the oil pump. You may have to align the oil pump"s female slot with a screwdriver to properly engage the shaft's male spade slot. The distribitor rotor should point towards the front of the car and in proximity to #1 spak plug wire.
