  1. I used a pipe cutter to score a groove line to cut with a metal cutting band saw.The pipe cutter's groove is really easy to follow with a bandsaw in the vertical position, but this method requires an assistant to help hold and square the strut assembly while the tube is cut.(kinda like a monkey fornicating with a football)......A good hacksaw and blade maybe time consuming but worth the effort for a beginner........The pipe cutter by it's cutting pressure tends to press the metal in at the cutline reducing the circumferance which is not good for tight fitting strut inserts . The pipe cutter has a tendency to wander if the cutting wheel is either too tight or loose on the tube while it is turned. Practice is the Key here! Once the pipe cutter groove line goes crooked on the tube....... forget the pipe cutter brcause it becomes a waste of time to get the line straight again....... Try using half inch masking tape to mark the cut line. The good expensive masking tape seems to circle around the tube evenlly for a square cut. You can measure the distance from top of the tube to the edge of the masking tape cut line to check for correct distance.... To weld use a appropriate length of 1 1/2 X1 1/2 angle iron clamped tightly to the tubes to minimize warpage and insure squareness........... I also would insert a 2 foot piece of polished/buffed piece of exhaust pipe into the tube to keep the two piece straight while welding.(It took 2 days to find the right size of exhaust pipe) The reason for the long piece of wxhaust pipe is to give enough room on the exposed part to anchor a pipe wrench to remove the exhaust pipe from the tube when finished welding. Do not weld more than an inch at a time and alternate the welds. Let cool and check for squarenees of the welded tubes with the clamped angle iron and use the pipe wrench to give the exhaust pipe in the tube circular twists to check for squareness. In the archives... I wrote an earlier piece on 280 Z strut shortening and the KYB strut #(Which maybe cross referenced for other strut inserts. for the front. You use the Z front struts on the rear. The old rule measure twice and cut once applies here . I measure about 20 times to cut once.

  2. Since I am an alumni of the "Safe Streets" prosecution task force, I have taken to reading what de big boys figure to target next which is government benefit fraud and namely social security identity theft to give this operation a little respect. Now if Grandpa or Grandma mark the wrong box and get a few bucks extra, a federal case can get made out of it and Pops or Moms gets a couple years at Club Fed on a high carbohydrate diet. A little far fetched ? OK inmate pal Scott Norby doing 8 years for Medicare Fraud. I have seen the paperwork because I heiped on his case. Scott is a first time offender and been married to his child hood sweet heart for 35 years with 4 boys with the youngest 15 and the older 3 college graduates or in college. Scott owned a hospital in Mexico after buying his partner out. Former partner went to the feds claiming Scott was overbilling Medicare on his American patients who were getting a better bang for their buck in Mexico. The message .....do not take fed medicare dollars into Mexico because NAFTA is really another type of scheme. Scott pays back the what he is told is overbilling of about $25,000.00 in a lttle over a 5 year period that his partner was involved with who gets immunity for his substantial subsistence for the prosecution of Scott. Scott loses the hospital but has the restraunt equipment in storage hoping to open a restraunt upon release because retirees cannot buy restraunt food in Mexico on food stamps unless changes are made in NAFTA. You know what really bothered Scot in this entire ordeal ... not his bankruptcy but was when Scott was humilated and lectured in front of his 15 year old son and wife by a psycotic guard Yancy with paranoid delusions that Scott was fondling his wife in a crowded visiting room and gee this 70 year old was also french kissing his old lady (Because Guard Yancy sees and hears things the rest of us do not) ......Sheridan also had Guard Stamper who stalked, kidnapped an 18 year old.. took her into the woods raped her repeatedly and left her for dead. Mr. Stamper was arrested just prior to his sentencing for "choking his girlfriend out" But good ol Warden Charlie Daniels still had employee Stamper on actiive duty because they arrested Stamper on the job at the prison. ..........Time to get off the soap box! ...........So Pete why fret over a few temporary basics........... In 50 years all the survivors will be doing slave labor in this big prison work camp called the USA for the few and privileged....... ie "the Weans"

  3. Terry......Would y0u have any ideas for a set of "direct read dial gauges" for my pace maker @ right breast pocket height. I would insist on distolic blood pressure in red face numerals so the arriving para-medics could read the vitals 10 to 15 feet away. (I used to be Tomahawk Zee).

  4. What you may want to start with is a fiberglass 250 GTO kit for the 240 -280 Zee and modify it to look like your concept on the ZX by locating the lexan dual head light covers and other etc. other parts to mold and modify to the 250 GTO fiberglass panels. John Washington (Reaction Research) at one time had a 250 GTO prototype on a 280 ZX body.

  5. I have this set from Origin Z who made the fiberglass convertible cap a few years back. I want to make up a couple 2 piece molds for them.. Yes they would be lighter than the steel originals but not much... Actually if you utilized a steel strap behind them.. the fiberglass ones would still be lighter and about as strong. I plan to get back into my fiberglass "therapy" in a few months.

  6. Looks more like you had a late rutting buck do a little massage rubbing on that side of the fender. Here in Oregon , I hit a cow elk in a 89 Sentra at about knee cap height doing about 20 MPH. She landed on her back clawing the sky with all 4 hooves and slid over the windshield... breaking it.....;.... rested on the roof until my brakes dug in to bring her across the windshield again to rest on the hood... She kept scratching thin air until she miracalously got enuff traction to hit the black top to join the rest of the herd. Good thing she was going to feed not coming from the pasture after a full meal. The Nissan took a beating!

  7. "4 barrell...4 speed and a "389" ......Me and ol "Pepe le Pew" were not dreaming about it or singing along... we were living it, going around 35 mile an hour corners sideways in third gear at 70 mph. and then a couple years later comes this "327 Chevy 11" that can run about two car lengths ahead of the GTO in the outlaw quarter but those GTO's could out corner 'em all from the factory.

  8. I would like to start making a dash cover using a combination of the GTO and Tomahawk designs. I used a plug from WAGZ for a GTO mold that Nathan and I made just before I went away. I wanted to splash a mold on the the roof on a 280 Z which was straight to make a fiberglass top to fully cover the roof for my GTO kit but the red 280 Z disappeared--just vanished. I filed the law suit and the eviction proceedings yesterday.

  9. Chaparel2f, I see you are a homeboy with an Oregon address. I apreciate the offer and stiil have Datsun parts to trade.I will leave you a private message with my phone number. My engine was stripped of Edlebrock 600CFM and Perfotmer Manifold, aircleaner, valve covers, Accel distributor, complete set of all stainless steel bolts and fastners and plugs except for the oil pan, And all the chrome crap that you can bolt onto an engine when you want to show-off, dip stick, alternator pulley brackets, alternator with chrome pulley, complete oil pressure sending unit and adapter Moroso inline radiator hose filler and radiator cap aluminum pulley, new water pump flex fan. The griffin radiator was damaged or basically everything except the block, and chrome oil pan heads and rams horn headers but the stainless bolts were taken.. I had posted a picture of the engine but that is gone now off the internet. The stuff can be replaced but it took awhile to collect. I will file a lawsuit tomorrow against 4 people for conversion, Intentional infliction of severe stress and interference with federally protected rights against three of them and I am not being kind in damages. I am also filing an eviction proceeding against the renters tomorrow too. There is a real problem with the rear tub of the Tomahawk which if unusable will be imposiible to replace given the nature of Rory Bateman and the attempt to splash a mold on his body design. I had another SBC engine that was stripped and a complte 76 Z is missing! When you do time, it is great to have a dream to focus on to make time go faster and when that dream gets urinated on like mine was there is nothing you can do about the situation locked up. I have seen inmates go crazy trying to deal with these losses like mine. The worst is to lose a wife and if the authorities get wind of this --you are thrown in the hole.

  10. I spent some time with fellows who mastered the Cashier's Check scam. Sometimes the bank does not even know it is a bogus check. Get the money in your hot hands first if in doubt. The FEDS are in the process of doing some publicity prosecutions for indenity theft according to the latest Justice Department Bulletins but expect a big show with little results because these guys who really do these scams are seldom caught and prosecuted. These guys are organized and have special phones set up to verify cashier's checks or any thing else.. The "tweeker" drug addict may go to extremes rifling mail and garbage cans but the proffessional buys sheets of personal information to steal idenities and usually your idenity is stolen and your credit resouces are gone before you know realize the loss (and the scam artist has got off a plane and sitting in the third row of some concert or championship prize fight living large he did not pay for either. "Don't Pay em " .....Play em!!!!!! I was not rehabilited but spent two years at a taxpayer sponsored Federal Crime School. The FEDS have a 67% recidivism rate of returns and a 98% conviction rate without jury trial and (the big fish get off the hook)

  11. A vendor on eBay in parts has a long running auction sale on 3 inch chrome side pipes under "side pipes" The 52 inch one fits for length and there is a "leg blister" shield on the pipes. To look and fit without going bump to bump on a lowered car, the 3 inch side pipes need to be raised up to under the door opening level and not horizontal under the rocker panel which will require a notch in the front fender similar as to the Tomahawk's opening for it's sidepipes. The VR and 250 GTO are one sexy ladies and the side pipes do add a little hair to the chest. Incidentally my 250 GTO front end actually slips over the modified original in place Datsun front fenders. I will modify the front fenders on the GTO's donar car (that is if I can locate it since , it is now missing) There was so much stuff missing, I didn't realize it was gone. After discovery of this loss I just made it back to the house for heart medication. There is a great feature added to this site and some good threads below. I consider the yellow Datsun has the side pipes too low for comfort

  12. First I want to thank all you guys who wrote me (especially John Haag for all the magazines that eventually were confiscated for unknown reasons) and apologise for not writing back to all of you who wrote to which was always comforting to recieve. Every time I went to the "hole" all the addresses seem to mysteriously (?) disappear. Since I refused all money sent to me, any stamps in my possession would be contraband which would mean another trip to the hole. In two years, I went to commissary twice (of which I am very proud and gave me "hard core status"). I came home in February to find my Hybrid Z name has been changed from Tomahawk Z, a hybrid Z guru and demoted to senior member "Anonymous" of which I will have to learn to spell. I can only find a few of my "posts" out of a few thousand submitted.................. My fellow inmates at Sheridan Work Camp began announcing me as "here comes trouble" during the last 6 months of my 28 month incarceration.............. I may hold the record for filing more complaints against staff and (eleven) "2241" writs of habeas corpus in the Oregon Federal District Court than anyone at the Sheridan Federal Facility. I spent the last two months in the "hole" for seperate incidents of insolence towards staff members (well worth it and would do it again since the experience will net another "2241" writ !). I am in the Ninth Circuit on appeal of one of three seperate appeals, and hoping to have a published case in the law books on pre-trial release. I have 8 more appealable "2241" writs plus a "2255" in the federal district court........................ No doubt, I need to get a life back to a SBC Datsun but my SBC got stripped of parts and a lot of my tools were stolen................... My Tomahawk # 8 ("Fat Boy") got a surreptious aborted mold splash by a "friend" while I was away serving time and while my wife was on vacation. At this point, it does not look like the unauthorized "splash mold" is going to come off the rear tub part of the body without a tremendous amount of work............. My old dog is still alive but took three days to remember me. My wife did not divorce me and I have a place to come home to. When I got out for some reason I had a craving for a box of Cracker Jacks and I still retain the prize from inside. I still have no tattoos and my bowel movements are becoming more regular after that prison food......... Nor have I lost my sense of humor which may have a touch of sarcasam

  13. Hobart, Miller or Lincoln convertible to flux or gas in 110 or 220 Volt with Varible adjustable speed and heat range with a duty cycle that will weld continously more than 3 minutes. Your "cheap" welder no matter what the price is a step above a Duracell battery, jumper wires and a coat hanger. My Sears (crapper) has probably a little more duty cycle than 15% and cannot weld anything successfully except .023 solid wire for about 3 1/2 minutes on high heat setting. Thre "crapper's" Low heat setting might weld plastic if a way could be found to ground the plastic.
