  1. There is no markings on the back of the cam. Can anyone give me some insight on this cam?
  2. That's what I was told but beyond that I haven't the slightest clue.
  3. There is just the two letters SS on it and the E30 on the side of the cam. I am just going off observation as the head says N42 along with the block.
  4. Good point. On the cam I can make out E30 and SS is stamped into the front, does that mean anything?
  5. I am going to junk the block and obviously the head but I might hold onto the crank.
  6. Alrighty I wasn't sure, so I figured I would ask. Thank you.
  7. So I got this engine for free with a transmission I just got, I got it for free because it dropped a valve killed it. I was told that the guy he had bought it from but like $3k into the engine. When I pulled it apart I noticed the crank had been drilled into. I would like to know if you could help me identify what I have here. I know it's an n42 block and n42 head (the head is toast) but beyond that I don't have a clue.
  8. I did drain the tank. No loose wires that I am aware of. I am getting spark not sure if it is good though. The only new thing in the car is the transmission, and I already bypassed the inhibitor. Yeah that was my thought, but I don't think it would cause the car to not start at all but I could be wrong.
  9. I have been stumped about what is wrong with my 78 280z. So It worked when I pulled it into the garage last year, since then I have done an automatic to manual swap, stripped it down to deal with rust and paint and now the thing will not start. Something tells me I messed something up but I am not sure what. It cranks, gets spark, gets fuel. I am not sure where else to go from here. My friend is saying it could be a weak spark and I should swap in a new cap rotor and plug wires. I tried spray some starting fluid in and it did turn over for a sec which tells me it could be a fuel issue but I really have no clue at this point. I just feel in the back of my mind that something didn't get plugged back in right and this is my fault.
  10. Yeah and doesn't have much rust. One small spot in the floor pan that I already fixed and an odd spot behind the headlight buckets.
  11. I have been slowly been working on my s30 over the past year or so and I finally decided I am tired of this being stuck in the garage so in the next month month I aim to take it from its current state to something I can actually drive. Then from there I will be slowly adding things as I go. I payed $600 for my Z which was a great deal considering what I was getting. The year doesn't really bother me as I am leaving cali when I get the chance. The downside to the car was it had an autotragic transmission which I finally got around to replacing with a 280zx 5 speed. My intended paint scheme when I am done is white with black trim, and maybe a black hood I am still deciding on that one. This was the day I brought the car back come I promptly removed those park bench bumpers and the shocks too. The great interior of the car, I am in the process of refurbing the dash right now. The $50 airdam I got off craigslist looks pretty good after I sanded and put some paint on it. More to come.....
  12. I am in the market for an air dam for my z, I am open to all offers I just prefer it be in Norther Cali.
  13. I am looking for a drivers side fender ( would prefer it have minimal to no damage) and a windshield for my 280z, any help would be greatly appreciated. I am in Northern California so I would prefer it be in my area.
  14. I am looking for an l28et to drop into my car I would prefer if the engine came from a running car but beggars can't be choosers. I would prefer the engine be in California, Nevada, or Oregon.
  15. I am looking for a 5 speed transmission so I can get rid of the automatic transmission. I would prefer it be in northern California if possible.
  16. Sorry but that is a little further then I would care to travel.
  17. I am looking for a 280zx turbo for a swap for my 280z. So I don't care about the body or interior, but I would prefer a manual transmission. I am located in northern california so closer the better.
  18. I am looking for a l28et, I would also like the 5 speed transmission, ecu and harness but if you don't have them that us not a deal breaker. I would prefer the engine be in good working condition.
  19. I decided to go with the weatherstipping #1120A33 from McMaster-Car. I am really regretting buying it as it does not even seal at the top of the door on my '78 280z. Am I missing something or should I just try something else, I would hate to think I wasted $45.
  20. I recently picked up a '78 280z really cheap, well long story short it is getting about 85 psi in all cylinders. I put a cap full of oil in one of the cylinders and that brought that cylinder up to about 120. I am assuming that the piston rings are shot would this be a valid conclusion? Also it is surging while idling any idea what might cause this?
