My bumpers are covered with the ugly black rubber molding. (The white car below) I've seen some Z's that don't have these. Is there a way to remove them or is this a different bumper altogether? I can't find much about this online. The white one is mine. Im looking to make the bumpers look like the ones on the orange Z.

Easiest way to remove door hinges from body?
Nismo_Gizmo replied to Nismo_Gizmo's topic in Body Kits & Paint
I have a book, but its not the fsm, and they documented everything except those hinges for some reason. Looks like ill have to remove the speaker cover moldings then. Thanks for the quick reply. -
Do I have to pull the dash to remove these? I am repainting my door jambs, and I don't want to have to mask them off and have the whole area look half assed. I have already pulled the doors, and from what I can tell, the hinges are threaded from the inside.

Did you already give it a shot? Please post some pictures when you do, this sounds like a great idea.

But up close it would have that gap showing. Is it possible to fill that gap with black RTV and smooth it over somehow?

I'm in the middle of sanding through 4 layers of paint on my 240Z, to paint it from scratch properly. It was originally brown, then white, then red, and now white. Anyway, I am looking for new windshield and hatch glass seals that do not accept the chrome trim. I'd like it to look blacked out, like this car: http://imgur.com/sIofO Did this person maybe just paint the chrome moldings black and place them back into the weather strip? Does anyone have any more information on this car? Thanks!

I don't smell gas when the car is not running, no. When it is running though, you can smell it in the car. My clothes always smell like fuel after driving it, and the hatch has been sealed, so I think its coming from the firewall. How would I go about checking the timing? Something is telling me that the problem is related to the distributor.

Do I have the buy a sync tool? I wanted to try to do this tonight and I don't want to wait for shipping. I'm pretty sure that no where nearby sells these. Maybe I can do the oil in a clear hose trick? This didn't work on my motorcycle because of the space available.

Thank you for the quick reply! I will read through this and check out how mine is set up when I get out of work. I'm pretty sure that these are indeed the same carbs that I am running. I will let you know how everything looks.

I am getting about 6MPG right now and there is carbon on my bumper next to the muffler, that's how rich we are talking. This is an L28 with what I believe to be dual stock carbs. It runs really strong, sometimes. Other times it doesn't seem to be warmed up, and when killing the choke, it will sometimes stall. The previous owner took a lot of care in this car and told me he had just balanced and tuned the carbs, so I am thinking that this could be a problem with the Dizzy, or timing? If I can't get this solved soon, it's going to accelerate the engine swap that I've been planning because it's going to pay for itself at the cost of my current fuel economy. Thanks in advance!

I got these off of a parts car along with the front calipers, but I bought the toyota truck fronts anyway because they look better and easier. Anyway, the Bore of the 280zx brakes is the same as the z31 turbo, and the part numbers are near identical. Has anyone installed the z31 turbo brakes? Am I going to have to make custom brackets for them or does someone sell them somewhere? All I can find is info on the s13 rear brake swap, which have less stopping power. Thanks.

I have (uninstalled) 5 lug hubs, z31T cv axles, and a longnose r200 (z31t) Ive seen videos of Ls1's spinning tires at 80mph. I don't want that to be me. I don't care too much about 1/4 mile time. This is going to be a Sunday driver, but if a ZR-1 pulls up to me on the highway, I wouldn't want to be embarrassed either. I've seen a lot of the Fbody people on other forums using 315s on stock 9in wheels. Is there a reason not to do this other than it looking a little buldgy? So the plan as it stands is BBS RS (http://www.vrwheels.com/bbs-rs-p-3142.html) Nitto NT555 315/35ZR17 If I can successfully get good traction with 315s on 9in wheels, I'm going to buy those BBS's tonight. How does the offset look? I want as big of a dish as possible, and thats about what I want to spend. Lower offset = more dish, right?

These might not be so bad if they were molded around the edges. http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/7BSA02/50-1565 How difficult would it be to fill the bolt holes and paint these? http://www.zforceproductions.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=15&Itemid=56 Would filling the holes with bondo be the best method?

As a side note, I'd like to stay beneath $500. I priced volkswagen bug fenders and they sell for $140 each. There are some considerably cheap aftermarket plastic and fiberglass ones though. I could get an entire set for about $200. I have never done that type of fabrication but I can be pretty delicate with sand paper. (I've built a few guitars)
-
Well since it looks like I'm going with the 9in wheels, maybe I should stick with the fenders in the top image since that car still has the bumpers. I've never driven a 600hp car, am I going to lose traction if I punch it in 2nd or 3rd, with 9in rear tires (Im assuming 275mm tires)?
-
I forgot to mention. Regarding the flares, I really would like to keep my chrome bumpers.
-
After I sell my Mint Condition Panasports, hopefully I'll be able to afford these BBS RS's that I found. (17x8+20 17x9+20) (I just found them for $1200) How do you think they look?
-
Those do look great, but they are really pricey. Thanks!

I dont want to turn this into a "Well im going to build this and do this thread." So to make a long story short, I have a 5 lug hub kit and 4 wheel disc brakes that I stripped off of a Z31 turbo. My goal is 600rwhp and I was hoping to fit a ~305 series tire on ~17x10's in the rear. I haven't done a lot of wheel research for my S30 yet, I just bought it recently. All I know is that I'm going to need flares regardless. With that said, I'm also going to need as wide of a tire as possible, with the limiting factor being the styling of the flare I choose. This is not a track car, just street.
-
I've been shopping for flares and so far I found the IMSA flares which I like but I think they might be a little too aggressive. I like these a lot but I have only seen them on this car, maybe they are custom?
-
Where did you finally buy the one that you have now?
-
Wow that's an awesome thread!!!! Thanks for the link! This should be a sticky, its very informative for the first time engine buyer.

I looked at Venus but they seem to be a little more expensive than others. I was thinking about buying this one. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDM-RB25DET-R33-5SPEED-ENGINE-240SX-180SX-SWAP-SKYLINE-/250690114219?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3a5e4b92ab#ht_1190wt_1166 Its $1799 shipped! What do you all think?

Would this be a waste of money for installing a FMIC in the S30 chassis? Is it more economical to just get your own piping and cut it with a band saw, and have it welded by a shop? Also buying a pipe beader when needed. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/12PCS-TURBO-PIPING-KIT-240SX-240Z-280Z-RB25DET-RB20DET-/270620954289?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3f02440eb1#ht_3520wt_1264

Let me know if you have either for sale, or see them! I am in Cleveland, OH. Thanks.
