  1. Here's a link to my r230(z32tt) rear diff install. http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/100289-more-progress-on-drivetrain/
  2. so like the title says, should i finish my project or sell it and just think of it fondly from time to time....Well, it all started with a 1973 240z that I got from a guy out near vallejo, ca. The car had no engine, no doors, no rear hatch, no hood, no fenders, no roof skin, and no wiring, pretty much just bare shell and busted up suspension and 4 flat tires. I was sooo in love with the shape and classic roadster style that I trailered it home. When I got home I decided to take a closer look and i realized that it had quite a bit of rust in the typical areas (battery tray and floor pans). So good thing I had a welder and time to make all the necessary rust repairs. I replace the floor pans, then added thicker floor rails that extended all the way to the rear frame, cut out the old rusty engine rails and made new engine rails out of 1/8in walled square tubing and let it sit for a while. Then I stumbled on this hybridz.org site and my life changed. The most of my new obsession was from drooling over Austins vq powered 240z. Thats when i decided to start that same project and bought a vq35de motor out of a 2003 350z 6speed. Shortly after I started stock piling parts like they were gonna run out or something. So heres a list of parts I have right now for the swap: Mckinney motorsports motor mounts $720 shipped and tax included, TTT (techno toy tuning)Backing Plates $550, Moustache bar $250, Lower control Drop mounts with dogbone $300, Front Diff Mount $150, Chromoly Axles $480, Coilovers for rear strut casings $199, Shocks for rear strut casings $240, front roll center adjusters $80,adjustable t/c rods $200,front lower control arms $350, rear lower control arms $425, front Arizona Z car coilover suspension with weld in camber plates, Arizona Z car Big brake kit with wilwood calipers, steel braided lines, 5 lug rotor and hub assembly, and caliper mounting plate, also have a 15/16 bore brake master cylinder with 280z remanufactured booster, and 350z steering column custom mounted to work with stock steering rack, I ordered austins shifter relocator and new b&m short shifter, brand new fidanza flywheel and exedy clutch, and mounted the 350z clutch master cylinder. I Also have a set of 17in Rays engineering Gram lights 57c that I have mounted with a brand new set of dunlop direzza star specs...................Anyhow, im pretty sure there is more that I forgot to mention as far as upgrades go, but lets just say a have a whole lotta money into this thing. The motor is in and lined up parallel to the rear diff about 2 or 3 degrees, which is a R230 by the way and engine mounts welded in and rolling pretty much. All I have to do now is plumb and flare the new stainless steel hard fuel lines, buy and mount a fuel cell/ fuel pump/fuel filter, plumb flare all of my new stainless steel hard brake line, get custom length driveshaft, hook up electronics and trouble shoot start up. Thats all thats left mechanically I need to do. As far as cosmetics Ive since welded in a roof skin i got off another z, I got a rear hatch, pair of doors with glass, quarter glass acquired, front windshield acquired, fenders, and hood hinge. the only thing missing is the hood and body work/paint of course. Ive finally run out of money and recently acquired a new baby boy. Did i mention i got laid off also, "isn't life grand." Anyhow, Im at a lost right now. Im so close to tasting and smelling the exhaust fumes and jizzing when I scratch 4th that its not even funny. But back to the question, should I finish and sell this thing or keep it for myself, or should I try to part it out? I know a few will be dying to get their hands on the r230 and custom moser engineering axles and mount setup I got... what do you guys think would bring in the most money for my family and newborn son? finish and sell, Part it out, or just keep and live really meagerly for a long while. Anyhow, any advice will do and is much appreciated since hybridz.org is my new family...Here are some build pics hope everyone enjoys.
  3. So Im in the middle of a vq35de swap into my 1973 Datsun 240z and I've got the motor in the engine bay all lined up with the rear differential. Now its time for a custom length drives haft with new u-joints....here's where I ran into a hiccup, I have a 93 300zxtt rear diff (r230) mounted and the companion flange has a six bolt pattern. The donor drive shaft that I have is the 350z carbon reinforced stock driveshaft with a 4 bolt pattern flange that mates to the rear diff. What should I do? I have an extra 350z diff that has the same 4 bolt pattern companion flange that I might be able to take off and put onto the r230 but im not sure if it has the same spline count and diameter. Im getting cheap at this point and dont want to buy another 300zx drive shaft just for the 6 bolt pattern flange. Im new to drive line stuff, so Im not sure if there is such a thing as a 4-6 bolt adapter of some kind. I saw an adapter online but im not sure where to buy one should i go that route. anyhow, any advise would be much appreciated. on to some pics now. I have the 4-6 drive shaft bolt adapter pic too, so someone please tell me where i can buy one so i can start taking measurements already. lol.
  4. I meant to say I like the harshness of having "no" powersteering. I hate posting comments sometimes from my phone lol.
  5. Im gonna be using the stock 240z steering rack, im too lazy to figure out how to mount the 350z rack and plus I kind of like the roughness of having to power steering. Also about the ride height....im gonna try to slam the car as low as possible, depending on how low my oil pan is gonna be sitting once I drop the motor into its final placement.
  6. So along with my vq35de swap into my 1973 datsun 240z I decided to mount the steering column also. I didn't want to deal with reflashing the ecm and key for it to turn over the engine so i when i purchased the motor, i got the ecu, bcm, steering column w/key, ignition switch, and all the other stock electronics. Its cool also that the steering column locks to I guess it might help a little when it comes to thieves trying to still this car when its done....anyhow, here's a pic of the steering column mounted and a suspension shot of my new 5lug suspension/big brake combo i picked up from arizona z car a while back.
  7. Yeah I was gonna paint the frame area I notched, but I still need to reinforce it more. I ran out of time thats why I didnt finish the reinforcment....i hate working on my car the same day I have to go to work at my job, it makes me want to call in and stay home to finish up. So when I find more time to finish the rear, i'll paint on some etching primer and then some por15 over that to be on the safe side. I think I'm gonna gather all of my pictures of this build and put it in the members project section....what do u guys think, I have no clue where to put my post.
  8. i have some more progress on the rear diff. I ended having to notch a section of the rear frame to clear the r230 pumkin though. i still need to reinforce it more with some 3/8in plate to stiffen the rear frame. i even manage to mount the abs wheel speed sensors. i'll let the pictures do the talkin.
  9. So I was in the middle of mounting the r230 and come to the realization I bought the high mount kit and id have to knotch the rear section of the frame. Only three hours wasted trying to figure out why it didnt fit. Plus I broke a bolt from the drop down bars due to a rusty ass nut and bolt. I couldnt get the bolt out with an extractor so I ended up cutting that section out and fabbing a new plate with a hole and nut welded in the back. I hate rust!!!
  10. I got the axles for 425 or 450 can't remember. Techno toy tuning sent my 93 300zx core axles to moser engineering to have them make me a new chromoly shaft and new cv boots to be put on and restrapped.
  11. i havent put the rear coilovers on yet. when i get a chance, i'll take measurments and pics. However, can anyone give me more advice on my brake line diagram? is everything where it should be? should i put the adjustable prop. valve in the engine bay as factory has it? any advice would help, since this is my first time doing brake lines.
  12. And if anyone is wondering why im using the r230 out of a 93 300zx turbo, its because it is strong, ratio is close to the 350z diff and most importantly it has the abs rings with the same diameter and teeth count as the differential off of a 350z and would provide me with a speedo reading.
  13. So i've been searching through dozens of threads here on hybridz and ratsun.org and can't figure out how to run my new brake lines. Here are a few details of my set up so far...My car is a 1973 240z and I'm swapping in a vq35de motor with mckinney motorsport mounts and r230 rear diff. The whole entire rear suspension is techno toy tuning's 5-lug swap set up using the z32 calipers and custom chromoly cv axles. The rear diff is mounted with techno toy tuning's r230 rear diff swap mount and I Also have the rear lower control arms and billet aluminum mustache bar as well. For the front i have Arizona Z car's 5-lug swap with wilwood calipers. I have a few of the pics in the 6 cylinder forum to better illustrate my build so far. But anyhow back to the question at hand...I bought 25ft of stainless 3/16 hardline and would like to run brand new lines. My main issue is that the rear parking brake mechanism that is used with the z32 hubs/calipers. The 1993 z32 300zx turbo parking brake mechanism that im using is a sort of inner shoe design to work by expanding and thus making contact with the inside of the rotor hat once you pull on the mechanical hand brake line. I don't want to deal with custom fab work at this point trying to make that work since it's only going to serve the parking function. I've come to the conclusion that I want a hydraulic line lock for parking instead. I know Arizona Z car sells them along with the wilwood adjustable proportioning valve and i just want to know where to plump it in the brake system. So I drew up a rough sketch of how i might set this up, but Im new to brake systems and i would like your advice on where to put everything. Please correct any problems you might notice in my diagram and educate me on where to place things appropriately.
  14. I chose the r230 primarily because of the strength and durability plus the abs sensors are the same as the 350z diff. Both abs rings have same diameter and 46 teeth. This way the speedo can get a signal.
  15. Does anybody know if the 350z ac amp is needed to be plugged in for the motor to start? I forgot to grab one while I was at the dismantler.
  16. Camber plates are from arizona z car. I still need to do alot of work to get the motor in. need to mod the crossmember to clear alt. and cut the old tranny mounts out.
  17. here are a few pics of the frame rail repair and austins shifter relocator + b&m short shifter installed. more pics will be up as soon as i find time to work on this car.
  18. I still need to mount the fuel cell, run my lines plus brake lines, hook up wire harness, get some tires, buy some t3 t/c rods and weld up the firewall due to all the rust
  19. The drivers side frame rails are done and im fabricating up the passenger side this up coming weekend. Hopefully then I can weld in the arizona z car front camber plates and drop in the motor and tow it to the driveshaft shop for my custom driveshaft. I'll have pics up tonight.
  20. here are a few of the items that i've been waiting months for. And more on the way....yay
  21. I just got austins shifter relocation kit in the mail today and I'm about to finish the engine rails. I hope to get the motor in this weekend. I wish I could find out where my extended wheel studs, stupid shipper didn't give me a tracking number.
  22. Its been a while but I've been waiting for more parts. I just recieved the arizona z car front suspension and wilwood brake kit, koyo radiator, exedy clutch and fidanza flywheel, and im welding in new front engine frame rails and modifiEd cross member. I'll post pics tomorrow.
  23. I forgot to mention that i'm having techno toy tuning make me new axles provided i give them a pair of z32tt axles and I am also going to run the z32 5lug conversion and brake kit. Another thing i didn't mention is the coilover suspension kit i picked up from techno toy tuning. Great stuff!!!!!!!!!!!
  24. sorry its been a while, been busy working overtime at my job...but here's an update: my motormounts from mckinney motorsports came in and i also picked up an r230 rear diff from a dismantler and rear diff mounting kit from techno toy tuning....here are some pics
