  1. turbo on the NA block rocks! the flat top pistons cause an increase in compression over the turbo block giving u better off boost response...the block should still be good for 12-13psi and at least 250whp, of course that would mean with the turbo block components
  2. ur ignition system sounds like it would be pretty good , but realistically, 250hp out of an l24 is going to require extensive work including major headwork, a cam and maybe even higher compression slugs. If u really want a stout motor that will be super reliable @ 250whp without major modification u should look into the l28et swap(81-83 280zx turbos) 2.8l ohc turbo motor...the swap is fairly simple due to the fact that the L family motors use the same motor and tranny mounts. With the l28et and a few mods such as downpipe, exhaust, intercooler and mayba some sort of ems or the ecu from a early z31 250whp should be attainable with the stock turbo @ about 13-15psi depending on ur setup. Do a search and u can find a lot more on any of the things i just mentioned
  3. i doubt that 18psi was on a stock bottom end...do u know if there was any internal work done on the 302's?
  4. as of now, i have a megasquirted l28et with a t3/t4 turbo and to be honest i'm not really satisfied with the power and spool time i have, due to my low stock compression (7.4 to1) and low displacement. I have always been fond of the ford 302 blocks due to their abundance and stout bottom end. I was thinking, has anyone done a turbo 5.0 in a z? I understand that the stock heads don't flow too well so many opt for aftermarket head such as AFR and the gt40 heads. With a decent sized turbo(t-66, holset hx40), some aluminum gt40 heads, msns, wb02 and the supporting mods such as upper/lower IM, bigger tb and so on what kind of boost would this motor be able to handle. I'm guessing that 450whp should be attainable with these mods at decent boost levels with megasquirt, which would be a wild ride in a z of any year. Please correct me if i'm wrong, i have heard that the 91 302 blocks came with a forged crank and forged slugs. Please chime in if u have any relevant info as i am a newbie sbf's
  5. i just purchased some illumina adjustable shocks for my 74 260 and my buddy gave me some springs from his 71 240. He told me they would go right in and yield me a stiffer ride with some adjustables, but physically the spring sizes are very different and decided to take a second opinion before i did anything. do u guys think it would yield me any benefits to swap the 260 springs w/ 240 springs when installing my shocks. I did a search and could not find anything, so any help is greatly appreciated.
  6. i like the idea of a high comp. FI l28...should be very driveable and u don't have to deal with boost; but then again u could always throw in a turbo motor, megasquirt it, run closed loop with a wideband and run a conservative tune with stock boost, but everyone knows how quickly that stock boost will turn into 15psi.
  7. can i use the ms without that board and just wire the harness to those relays i need? what kind of problems with the hei did u have? what kind of coil were u using it with? anyone else know if i can use the 300zx turbo coil with this hei or leave the gm coil i have on there now? please chime in if u can help me.
  8. currently running an l28et with an upgraded hybrid turbo and installing msns-e soon. My concern is the stock ignition and how it will hold up. I currently have a GM coil with a GM ignition module using a stock 83 dist. I was thinkin about a z31 turbo coil and leaving my gm ign module but i dont know if they would be compatible. Is this possible? Don't really know much about spark and ignition, kinda new to this all, but would like to know what my best course of action would be. would i be able to get sufficient spark with the GM coil? I have also been looking at blaster coils on ebay and the msd hvc. Please help me. BTW As far as my megasquirt goes for installation i have the msns-e v2.2 with the flybackboard and the 240sx tb with the tps and was looking at the universal harness from rs-autosport. what is the purpose of the power dist /relay board for the megasquirt(saw this on rs-autosport also) I have heard there is a much cheaper alternative(strapped for cash)? anything else i need for my ms installation.
  9. My z is currently in the shop getting it's final touches and my msns put on(yes i am turbo challenged, but i am learning). Currently running a stock internal l28et that will be controlled by the ms. Mods are t3/t4 hybrid turbo with stock t3 hot side, 437cc ford cfi injectors, pallnet fuel rail, walbro fuel pump, aeromotive fpr, 60mm tb , npr i/c , 2.5 in tig welded i/c piping, 3 in dp and 3in mandrel bent ex. and a stock drivetrain 74 260z. My real question is what timing and boost will give me safety with driveability. I was thinking a 12psi on a conservative tune with ign timing adv 2 degrees would be ok, but dont really know what kind of power i would see or if it would even be safe to run daily. My ultimate goal is a low 13sec daily driver with extreme reliability. what is my rear end good for, as far as whp? please help
  10. well my z is coming along slowly, but a huge step will be taken as soon as i find out which ngk spark plug to use on my l28et for my setup. The motor is from an 83zx with hydraulic lifters. I will be running msns-extra v2.2 with a t3/t04e not sure on specs(came with the car), fmic with 2.5in cold and hotside. 3indp, 3in exhaust, 437cc/min ford injectors, 60mm tb. I plan on runnning a very conservative tune at about 10-12psi, but would like to turn up boost to 15-17psi with water/meth injection and a new hg. My real question is what spark plug i should use and what i should gap it at...i see so many different opinions and setups that i dont really what to do. Feel free to chime in with any helpful info.
  11. well i called diamond road race wheels and was looking at their pro series. I wanted a dot approved wheel that i could drive on the street with so i was told they could make a wheel for me using the trucker wheels with a different bolt pattern. I was looking at a 15x8 wheel with a 0 offset and a 4 inch backspace, my real concern is rubbing and tires. mind you, the car will be lowered 1.5 inches. Will this setup rub, and if so, can someone point me towards a better combo that will provide me enough width and traction for safe daily driving? Looking for a wide decent wheel that i can safely put a 245 or 255 tire on...what tires out there provide these sizes for a 15 inch wheel anyways? any feedback is appreciated...thanx again
  12. i would also like to know where i can find this kit or just these parts i anyone knows
  13. i'm looking to upgrade the tb on my l28et with the 60mm application on the s13 240sx. i was told there is a kit that comes with the tb, tps and the spacer...not sure who makes it or where i can find it. this is going on a 74 260 with an l28et swap...the car currently has a stock efi but i want to do this mod while i install my msns-e v2.2(with flybackboard)...anything i need to know guys? well i would appreciate ny feedback i can get...feel free to chime in if u know anything of this matter
  14. well guys i think i'm about to purchase a 74 260z for $2000. the car has a transplanted l28et(compression on all the cylinders is great) with an upgraded t3/t4 turbo(internal wg set at 6.6psi) and a small fmic, the car also has a turbo xs bov, fpr, centerforce dual fricton clutch, and no exhaust as of now(just a homemade race downpipe). Right now the car is running really badly, shaking and stalling after shifting gears, but the owner told me that it was due to the maf not being tuned correctly and the bov releasing unmetered air since it still has a MAF. for $500 the owner told me he would purchase a mega squirt unit and upgrade the injectors. i was thinkin if i upgraded the injectors and bought a mega squirt it would be a pretty fast and economical car, but i dont know much about what injectors i should upgrade to and which mega squirt unit is best for me. i would like to upgrade to injectors that will fit right in with minimal modification and want probably about 300whp...would this require anything else such as fuel lines,etc... please give me as much info as possible including prices and where i can get these things from. I heard the 80-84 5.0 cfi injectors work well and flow well enough for this application at 437cc/min and are low impedence. please help me make an informed decision whether i should buy this z or not, so i can really join the hybrid z family=) btw...the car needs some paint, tires and interior work...is 2,500 with the efi and injectors still a good price?
  15. Currently looking at a 260z and don't know much about them, please tell me if the car is worth what he is asking. 1974 260z with a four speed tranny, 3.54 diff, small fmic and pvc ic piping. Upgraded turbo to t3/t4 hybrid, centerforce dual friction clutch, 1 gen dsm bov. 2.5 in downpipe w/ no exhaust on the car. The l28et in the car has about 70k miles and the car itself has almost 185,000mi. The car does need a good amount of work though. Door panels and interior carpet are missing, it needs a new headliner, complete paint job, wiring under steering column needs to be cleaned up. Seats have some tears and will need to be replaced, needs new tires, and an oil line from the turbo needs to be replaced. Overall the body is straight and is currently primered. Drives nicely and does not leak oil. The owner is asking $2000 and is very firm...i'm really fond of the car so i was about ready to buy it lst week but wasn't sure if i would be wasting my money. Please give me any feedback you have, it is greatly appreciated.
