  1. I have an 80 and 82 zx, both are na's. . . the 80 is a 5 speed and the 82 is an auto. the 80 is my parts car. ive got both the engines and trannys out and im swappin the transmissions. ive done quite a bit of research on and off the site and from what ive read i needed to use the driveshaft from the 5speed because it was shorter. but when i got them out they are the same size. im also pretty sure the 80 has the r180 and the 82 has the r200 with the 3.90 gears. are these different length diffs? and thats why the drive shafts are the same size. or should everything bolt up jus fine no matter what drive shaft i use. i had everything all researched and it just threw me off because i was expecting a shorter drive shaft. any help appreciated
  2. dang that looks really good. i might do it at the bottom now that ive seen that and yeah now that i look at yours itll be closer forward. also is that the body kit from the z store?
  3. when i put the swap in i would REALLY REALLY like to continue having a/c. is it possible to to get an r12 compressor off a gen 1 (i know where one is at for cheap) and run the lines to it then a retro fit kit using the stock z stuff that was in it and the gm compressor
  4. so if i got the 3" deep steering wheel = way to close
  5. and i didnt get the stripes big enough or close together but im sure youve seen the 510s like this and if you havent jus google image datsun 510... and yes the wheels are the ones that were on it when i bought it lol. goin to a five lug right now then wheels to choose
  6. i should be gettin my s130 painted this christmas. FOR SURE flat black but i saw this on quite a few 510s and thought it may look good tell me what you think... BUT... before you comment realize that this is a coulple cans a spray paint and i lil tapin off. took me bout an hour, i know it looks bad lol. preferably i wouldve liked the grey to be a tad darker and the DATSUN to be a little bigger but you get the idea
  7. ok first off i know there is a billion out there so if any body would like me to delete this i will gladly do so, no hard feelings. i would just like to get a little info Now... i am currently getting the parts for the 5 lug swap. ( all donor parts are coming from a 85) for the rear, i dont currently have any parts for the rear i will be getting the hubs w/rotors and bearing, cv joints, and the later 280zx's lower control arms BECAUSE ive read with the lower control arms from the later s130, the 300 calipers and everything else is a bolt on swap. for the front, i HAVE only the hubs w/rotors and bearings it LOOKS like the 300 calipers could possibly fit? the only differance i saw was that the calipers are on the front of the assembly instead of the rear like on the 280, so could they work jus being mounted upside down basically... if those calipers are not compatible, i have read plenty of forums and have gotten a couple possibilities but am still not sure. so any suggestions would be great im open to anything preferably the least fabrication necessary. thanks to all
  8. cali laws are insane.... vacation only
  9. so you have a 3" adapter and 3" release?
  10. i am now on interior/suspension on my 80 zx build and i was curious if a 1) nrg short hub adapter 1" i believe 2) nrg quick release hub 3" 3) nrg 3" deep dish steering wheel would be to close for comfort? or should i try to find a "zero offset" steering wheel i like? spencer
  11. i teared up lol. but i love to see another s130 lover. they are for sure the under dog in all the z cars but i still will never get rid of mine:) the best car ever!! yay s130's!!!
  12. possibly the wrong part, ive had my fair share of those situations. . . i got a fuel pump for my 80 na and it LOOKED similar until i tried to put it on. ended up being wrong part. go back and double check part numbers is what i would do, then go from there...
  13. but what about the earlier year motor then?? should i be looking for an ls1 etc.?
  14. Yeah i didnt mean that the power wouldnt pass but more power means more being burned from what i understand. But i was told it was from a 79 z28. so since i have an 80 i might not be able to do it? and TN also has that pre 75 is exempt from smog. so i would have to go through marda with just the gas cap check and the sniffer. and i wasn't planning to do the "paperwork" on the swap, i was just going to go through and hope it passes(running cats of course but i will have to check on that. but in getting it approved does that mean i would have to keep things like the afm? (i dont see how that would work). thanks for the input.
  15. ok so i have planned for a while to get the zx looking good and run the six while building a sbc and have the v8 fully done when it goes in. i have a first gen 350 on the stand ready to start the build. unfortunately i am one of like 6 counties in tennessee that has marda(emissions). my power expectations are in the range of 450hp. my concern is will that much power (or a little more) be impossible to pass marda without a severe de-tune. plans were to go simple with the carb. but i wouldn't mind going with the ls1 at all. i could get more power and also do a turbo or supercharger if i wanted. but if anyone knows the restrictions in TN and would know if it would pass that would be great. thanks for any info, spencer
